1. Pakistan-US defence talks begin today

• The second round of US-Pakistan mid-level defence dialogue begins in Washington on February 12, 2023 (today) to consider various options for strengthening ties between the two establishments.
• The Pakistani team, headed by the Chief of General Staff (CGS), Lt Gen Mohammed Saeed, reached the US capital on Sunday afternoon. The delegation includes two major generals, two brigadiers and a civilian representative, the Additional Secretary for Americas Muhammad Mudassir Tipu from the foreign affairs ministry.
• They will interact with their counterparts at the US Defence Department, which is also known as the Pentagon


2. Eight injured in blast near car carrying wounded ASI

• Eight people, including women, suffered injuries in a bomb attack on a vehicle carrying a wounded police official in the Ghulam Khan area along the border with Afghanistan on February 12, 2023.
• Unidentified people had attacked Assistant Sub-Inspector Aminullah inside his home at around 4am on Sunday.
• Officials said the police official sustained injuries in the attack and was being shifted to the hospital in a car when a bomb near the vehicle went off.
• `He was in the car and was about to be shifted when the explosion took place leaving eight people wounded,` a police official said, adding that two women were among the victims

3. Parliament to hold second joint sitting today

• The parliament`s second joint sitting in a week will take place February 12, 2023 (Monday) at 4pm, with important national issues on the agenda.
• However, despite the joint sitting, the Senate will also resume its session today something constitutional experts say has already happened in the past.
• On Sunday, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani already changed Monday`s session timing from 4pmto 12 noon.
• An official announcement said the timing was revised due to the joint sitting of the parliament


4. 173 Gandhara art pieces from museums loaned to China

• The Department of Archaeology and Museums has loaned one of the largest consignments of masterpieces of Gandhara art to China for an exhibition in Beijing.
• Comprising 173 masterpieces of Gandhara art from the Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Hund, Taxila, Karachi and Islamabad museums, these artifacts will go on display on Feb 15 at the Palace Museum Forbidden City. The exhibition will run for three months.
• The provincial departments of archaeology in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab had provided active support and loaned some of the best specimens of Gandhara art from their collections for the exhibition.


5. First female Hindu officer posted as Hassanabdal AC

• A female belonging to the minority community has been appointed as the assistant commissioner of Hassanabdal for the first time in the history of the town.
• Dr Sana Ramchand Gulwani, 27, has assumed the charge of the AC and administrator of the town.
• Dr Sana was the first female from the Hindu community to join the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) after passing the Central Superior Services (CSS) exam 2020.
• Growing up in the small town of Chak in Shikarpur, Sindh, she got her primary and secondary education from a local government school
