1. 59 perish in ghastly Peshawar blast

• Broken glass and debris from a collapsed roof littered the site of a deadly bombing after an explosion ripped through a mosque in Peshawar`s Red Zone area, leaving 59 people, mostly police officials, dead and over 150 injured.
• The mosque, located at the centre of the Police Lines is surrounded by highly sensitive buildings, including the headquarters of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the office of the deputy inspector general (Telecommunication).
• There was no confirmation about the nature of the attack throughout the day, but in a late night development, Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mohammad Ijaz Khan told Geo News that initial evidence pointed to it being a suicide attack


2. 4 `militants killed in twin KP operations

• Four alleged militants were killed and another surrendered to the police during intelligence based operations in Swabi and Dera Ismail Khan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 30, 2023.
• According to Swabi District Police Officer Najamul Hassan, two militants blew themselves up and a third surrendered to police after law enforcement personnel encircled their hideout in Chota Lahor tehsil.
• Officials in Swabi said the personnel of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), police and intelligence agencies launched a joint operation after receiving information about the presence of militants in Hund village

3. Pakistan expects no US interference in Russia ties

• Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on January 30, 2023 expressed the hope that the United States would not interfere in growing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia.
• FM Bhutto-Zardari was in Russia on a two-day official visit during which both sides, according to APP, agreed to pursue initiatives to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including education, economy, energy and connectivity.
• `As far as interference by other countries are concerned, I expect that they will not interfere in bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia,` the foreign minister said during a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. He was replying to a question whether Pakistan has managed to receive guarantees from the US that it will not block the [energy] deal or impose sanctions


4. Three UN agencies join hands in Pakistan to help flood-hit people

• Three United Nations agencies in Pakistan have forged a partnership aimed at improving protective environment for refugee and host communities affected by unprecedented floods, especially children and women.
• The UNHCR, the UN`s Refugee Agency, signed two agreements with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Unicef at the time when swathes of Pakistan remain under water.
• The agreement is expected to continue in 2023 and is aimed to facilitate the transfer of resources from one UN entity to another to reach the most affected communities under the `One-UN` arrangement, said an announcement by the UN, on January 30, 2023


5. UAE president`s visit to capital postponed amid `bad weather`

• United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan left for his country without visiting the federal capital due to `bad weather` conditions on January 30, 2023.
• His visit has been postponed to a later date.
• The capital administration had announced a public holiday in Islamabad on Monday due to the UAE president`s visit.
• Meanwhile, the twin cities received rain on Monday, bringing a chill in the weather while Murree recorded 11 inches of snow
