1. PM to virtually attend SCO summit on Modi`s invitation

• Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in a virtual meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on July 4, the Foreign Office announced.
• In a statement, it said that PM Sharif`s participation in the summit illustrates the high importance that Pakis-tan attaches to the SCO, which is an important forum for regional security, prosperity, and enhanced engagement with the region.
• `Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the 23rd Meeting of SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) being held in video conference format on 4th July 2023,` it said. The invitation to the prime minister to attend the SCO-CHS was extended by his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in his capacity as the current Chair of the SCO


2. Pakistan demands equitable expansion of UNSC

• Pakistan has urged the United Nations to add non-permanent members to the Security Council to ensure equitable representation of all 193 member states of the world body.
• In a debate on the Security Council`s 2023 report on Friday, Pakistan UN Ambassador Munir Akram also emphasized the need to separate terrorism from legitimate struggles for self-determination


3. Six militants killed in Tank, N. Waziristan, says ISPR

• Six militants were killed in separate operations carried out by the security forces in Tank and North Waziristan districts, read a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR).
• An intense exchange of fire took place between troops and terrorists in the Manzai area of Tank at midnight, where security forces `effectively engaged terrorists` location`.
• Resultantly, three terrorists were killed, while weapons and ammunition were also recovered from their possession, the ISPR stated

4. Pakistan, India exchange lists of prisoners

• Pakistan handed over a list of 308 Indian prisoners, including 266 fishermen and 42 other civilians lodged in its jails, to the High Commission of India on Saturday, Foreign Office said in a statement.
• Indian government also shared a list of 417 Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, including 74 fishermen and 343 other civilians.
• Pakistan and India swapped lists of their nationals in each other`s custody as part of a bilateral agreement


5. FM reaches Japan on four-day official tour

• Foreign Minister Bilawal BhuttoZardari arrived in Tokyo on a four day official visit to Japan at the invitation of Japanese government.
• The foreign minister was received by Pakistan`s Ambassador to Japan Raza Bashir Tarar, officials from Japanese foreign ministry and a large number of Pakistan community members.
• `The Foreign Minister`s visit signals the revival of leadership level contacts with Japan after a considerable hiatus,` the Foreign Office said in a statement. During the visit, Mr Bhutto-Zardari will hold delegation-level talks with his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi
