6. UAE minister due today to discuss Pakistan`s progress on climate goals

• The President of COP28 and UAE`s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber will be visiting Islamabad on July 6, 2023 for discussion on Pakistan`s progress on climate and environmental goals ahead of the COP28 conference in the UAE.
• Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, who will be a state guest for a day-long official visit, was invited by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Sherry Rehman to share and build common ground for the global stock taking in the context of Pakistan`s accelerated climate stress.
• In a statement issued here, the Ministry of Climate Change said that Minister Al Jaber will call upon the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the official visit

7. UK special forces under inquiry for Afghan war crimes

• Britain`s defence minister on July 5, 2023 said allegations of unlawful killings in Afghanistan being examined by an independent inquiry relate to UK special forces.
• The inquiry which opened in March was `now reaching the stage of substantive hearings, and I can confirm that the allegations relate to the conduct of UK Special Forces`, Ben Wallace told parliament in a written statement.
• Wallace said the confirmation of special forces involvement was made only `in the exceptional circumstances of this inquiry`

• King Charles III was on July 5, 2023 presented with symbols of his authority in Scotland, two months after he was officially crowned as monarch.
• The 74-year-old head of state received the Honours of Scotland a crown, scepter and sword of state at a service in Edinburgh`s St Giles` Cathedral.
• Charles and his wife Queen Camilla are in Scotland as part of a week of official engagements, staying at their official residence the Palace of Holyrood house
9. Ten sentenced to 10 years for lynching Muslim man in India
• An Indian court sentenced 10 men to 10 years in jail on July 5, 2023 for the lynching of a Muslim man, who died after being tortured and forced to chant Hindu slogans.
• Tabrez Ansari was tied to a pole and tortured for 12 hours in 2019, as he cried and pleaded with a mob that accused him of burglary. A video of the incident that went viral on social media showed the 24-year-old being forced to chant `Jai Sri Ram` meaning `hail Lord Ram` a slogan widely used by Hindu hardliners.
• Police had later detained Ansari for theft while he was in critical condition, and took him to hospital days after, where he died while in custody
10. Western allies drag Iran to ICJ over downed jet
• Canada, Britain, Sweden and Ukraine have taken Iran to the UN`s top court to seek damages for families of passengers on a jetliner downed by Tehran in 2020, they said on July 5, 2023.
• The case lodged by the four countries, which had a number of citizens on board, asks the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to order Iran to apologise for shooting down Ukraine International Airlines flight 752 after take-off from Tehran.
• All 176 people on the plane were killed. Three days after the January 8, 2020 crash, Iran admitted that its military had targeted the Kyiv-bound Boeing 737-800 plane by mistake
