6. China unveils new operating system for computers
• China has launched its first homegrown open-source operating system for computers, state media said on July 6, 2023, as Beijing seeks to reduce its foreign dependence at a time of increased rivalry with the United States.
• The system, called OpenKylin, has been designed as a rival to the ubiquitous Windows and Mac OS systems.
• Previous versions of the software had already been deployed on the computers of some government departments, state media said
7. India protests to Canada over Trudeau`s remarks
• India summoned the Canadian envoy in New Delhi to register its protest after Indian media reported that posters issued for rallies there and in Britain by a Sikh group`s supporters also targeted Indian diplomats, a foreign ministry spokesperson said.
• `The matter has been strongly taken up with Canadian authorities, both in New Delhi and in Ottawa,` Arindam Bagchi said.
• `Posters inciting violence against diplomats and our diplomatic premises are unacceptable, and we condemn them in the strongest terms.

• Two UK judges on Thursday turned down a government request to withhold documents of ex prime minister Boris Johnson from a public inquiry probing the handling of the coronavirus pandemic response.
• The Cabinet Office, which works across the executive coordinating government activity, opposed the release of Johnson`s unredacted WhatsApp messages, diaries and notebooks
9. Escalation `not the answer`, UN chief tells Tel Aviv
• The United Nations chief on July 6, 2023 accused Israel of using disproportionate force against Palestinian groups in a recent raid and warned against escalating the violence.
• A large-scale military operation by Israel in the occupied West Bank earlier this week killed 12 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier.
• `There was an excessive force used by Israeli forces,` Secretary General Antonio Guterres told reporters in New York

10. Zaka takes charge of PCB, emphasises concerted efforts to lift Pakistan cricket
• The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) welcomed its third chief in the past six and a half months on July 6, 2023 when Zaka Ashraf took charge of the Interim Management Committee (IMC).
