6. UN plans to use robots for food aid deliveries
• AI-powered robotic vehicles could deliver food parcels to conflict and disaster zones by as early as next year in a move aimed to spare the lives of humanitarian workers, a World Food Programme (WFP) official said.
• Attacks against aid workers have intensified in recent years amid the highest number of violent conflicts since World War II, according to the United Nations. WFP, the UN`s food aid agency, alone lost three workers earlier this year in Sudan`s conflict
7. Washington to send cluster munitions to Kyiv
• The United States announced on July 7, 2023 that it will send Ukraine widely-banned cluster munitions as part of a security assistance package, a move Ukraine said would have an `extraordinary psycho-emotional impact` on occupying Russian forces.
• Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden`s National Security Adviser, laid out the case on Friday for providing cluster munitions to Ukraine ahead of an expected Pentagon announcement
8. Dutch government collapses after migration row
• Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte`s coalition government collapsed after just a year and a half in office on July 7, 2023 in a row over measures to curb the flow of migrants, local media said.
• Rutte, the Netherlands` longest-serving leader, presided over crisis talks between the four coalition partners but failed to reach a deal, broadcasters NOS and RTL and the Dutch news agency ANP reported.
• There was no immediate statement from Rutte or members of the coalition
9. UN body asks France to fully probe Nahel`s death
• A UN committee on July 7, 2023day called on France to ensure the investigation into the killing of Nahel, the teenager shot dead by police near Paris, is `thorough and impartial`, and called for racial profiling to be banned.
• The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), made up of 18 independent experts, flagged concerns on racial profiling and the excessive use of force by law enforcement`.
• The experts also condemned `looting and destruction of private and public property as well as reports of mass arrests and detention of protesters`
10. Beijing sees boost in relations as talks with Washington begin
• Chinese Premier Li Qiang told US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on July 7, 2023 that Beijing `can see a rainbow` after a period of fraught ties, as the two sat down for talks aimed at stabilising their countries` relationship.
• Yellen told Li that the United States is not seeking `winner-take all` competition.
• Her four-day trip is her first as Treasury chief to China, with which the United States is butting heads over trade curbs, human rights and a litany of other disputes
