6. Mastercard launches global plan to recycle credit cards

• Payments company Mastercard launched a global project to recycle credit and debit cards as part of a plan to save the billions of cards in circulation across the industry from landfill.
• Initially partnering with British lender HSBC Holdings Plc in eight branches in Britain, Mastercard said banks across the world, some of which have launched local initiatives, would be able to join the programme and help build economies of scale.
• `We are inviting all card issuers around the world to partner with us, no matter what region they are in, and offer card recycling to their customers,` said Ajay Bhalla, president of cyber and intelligence at Mastercard Inc


7. China slams Biden for equating Xi to `dictators`

• China`s foreign ministry slammed comments by US President Joe Biden equating Chinese leader Xi Jinping with `dictators` as an `open political provocation`.
• Speaking at a fundraiser in California on Tuesday, Biden said Xi had been angered over an incident in February when a Chinese balloon which Washington says was used for spying flew over the United States before being shot down by American military jets.
• His comments come just days after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded a visit to Beijing aimed at reestablishing lines of communication in order to avoid conflict between the two global powers


8. Israeli drone strike kills three in West Bank

• Israel`s military killed three members of a `terrorist cell` in a rare West Bank drone strike, the army said, as violence there escalates with at least 13 Palestinians and four Israelis dead this week.
• The army announced the strike after a Palestinian man was killed earlier Wednesday in an occupied West Bank village attacked by hundreds of Israelis.
• Intelligence led Israel Defense Forces (IDF) personnel to identify the cell `inside a suspicious vehicle, after the cell carried out a shooting adjacent to the town of Jalamah`, near Jenin in the northern West Bank, an army statement said


9. Ahsan clinches Asian U-21 snooker

• Ahsan Ramzan, Pakistan`s former world champion, added yet another feather to his cap when he outclassed Iran`s Milad Pourali Darehchi 5-2 in the best-of-nine frames final of the Asian U-21 Snooker Championship in Tehran on Wednesday evening.
• The 17-year-old won the best-of-nine frames final 48-46, 70-5, 61-6, 62-29, 30-71, 55-67, 101-27.
• Earlier, Ahsan brushed aside Tirdad Azadipour, also of Iran, 4-2 in the semi-final with the scores being 76-8, 102-1, 3-66, 75-35, 14-82, 81-14


10. India thrash fatigued Pakistan 4-0 in SAFF Championship opener

• Forced to play less than 12 hours after landing in Bangalore, Pakistan got off to a horror start in their SAFF Championship opener against India but they regrouped and avoided losing by a landslide. It finished 4-0 on Wednesday but it could`ve been worse.
• Goals by Sunil Chettri had seen India go 2-0 up inside the opening 16 minutes their first coming after a dreadful error by goalkeeper Saqib Hanif with Pakistan seemingly suffering from the effects of their long trip from Mauritius.
• The majority of Pakistan`s squad had touched down in Bangalore just seven hours before their Group `A` opener, which the South Asian Football Federation had refused to reschedule, but they held on in pouring rain at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium until Chettri scored his second penalty of the game in the 75th; the goal moving him up to fourth in the all-time international scorers` list
