1. Pakistan sends 550 tonnes of relief goods to Turkiye, Syria

• As part of continuous relief assistance on government directions to quake-affected people of Turkiye and Syria, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on March 11, 2023 sailed off another ship PNS Moawin with 550 tonnes of relief goods from Karachi.
• NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, Turkish Consul General Jamal Sangu and Pakistan Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Faisal Abbasi witnessed the departure ceremony of the ship. The Turkish consul general conveyed gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for extending humanitarian support in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake. The ship carried a 367-tonne consignment of 2,625 family-sized fire-resistant winterised tents and 38,370 blankets for quake-affected Turkiye and another 179-tonne consignment of 22,000 blankets and 144 tonnes of essential items of daily use for Syria.
• The NDMA coordinated ship carrying aid for the two countries, which departed from Karachi would reach Mersin port of Turkiye on March 23 and Lattakia port of Syria on March 31


2. Balochistan CM offers talks to `insurgents`

• Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo has once again urged angry Baloch insurgents to come down from the mountains and resolve all issues with the government through dialogue.
• He said if those who were up on the mountains considered themselves well-wishers of the people of Balochistan, they should be willing to initiate negotiations to solve problems the province had been facing for decades.
• `Dialogue is the only way to find solutions to all issues. Come to the negotiation table as it is the right way for finding a suitable way,` he said while talking to reporters during his visit to the port city of Gwadar on March 11, 2023


3. Dar expects to close IMF deal as talks set to resume

• Pakistan has seemingly been on the verge of signing the much-anticipated staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for several weeks now, but the coming week may see the finance minister `close the deal`, sources in the finance ministry told Dawn.
• The government has been sticking to its line of `very soon`, and a finance ministry official said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar would resume the final round of talks with the lender tomorrow (March 13, 2023).
• Earlier this week, Mr Dar said the government would sign a staff-level agreement with the Fund in a few days

4. Bomb attack on PTI MPA`s son kills two in Kachhi district

• A bomb struck the convoy of Sardar Khan Rind a former district nazim and the son of a PTI provincial lawmaker in the Sunni Shoran area of Kachhi district, killing two of his private bodyguards and critically wounding a third, officials said on March 11, 2023.
• Mr Rind escaped unhurt in the blast, which according to officials was carried out using a remote-controlled improvised explosive device. No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
• Dhadar Assistant Commissioner Fahad Shah Rashdi confirmed that the convoy was targeted in the Sunni Shoran area

5. Li becomes China`s premier, tasked with reviving economy

• Li Qiang, the former Communist Party chief of Shanghai, took office on March 11, 2023 as China`s premier, the country`s No 2 post, putting the close ally of President Xi Jinping in charge of reviving an economy battered by three years of Covid-19 curbs.
• Widely perceived to be pragmatic and business-friendly, the 63-year-old Li faces the daunting task of shoring up China`s uneven recovery amid global headwinds and weak confidence among consumers and the private sector.
• Li takes office as tensions rise with the West over a host of issues including US moves to block China`s access to key technologies.
• Li was put on track to become premier in October when he was appointed to the number-two role on the Politburo Standing Committee during the twice-a-decade Communist Party Congress
