1. IMF board to approve SLA on Dec 7

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is tentatively scheduled for Dec 7 to approve the Staff-Level Agreement (SL A) with Pakistan for the first review of the $3bn Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) leading to disbursement of about $700 million on Dec 8.
The IMF staff and the Pakistani authorities reached the SLA on Nov 15 in Islamabad, according to an end-of-mission statement. This will enable Pakistan to have access to SDR 528 million (around $700m). This will bring total disbursements under the nine-month $3bn SBA to almost $1.9bn


2. Schools to shut on Saturdays, two-day `work from home` to combat smog

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the caretaker Punjab government to notify the Saturday closure of public schools, colleges and universities and all other educational institutions till the end of January 2024, due to smog.
`The government shall take measures for declaring two days in a week as work from home in the private sector in the province of Punjab, stated Justice Shahid Karim in a written order issued on Monday on a set of environment-related petitions.

3. Current account gap narrows to $74m

The current account deficit (CAD) narrowed year-on-year by 91 per cent in October but it widened on a month-on-month basis.
The latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday shows the deficit remained within the estimate of the bank. Last week, the SBP governor said that CAD would remain well below $100m in October and expected that it would be well-contained in 2023-24

4. Dozen killed as Israel hits Gaza`s last major hospital

Israeli tanks surrounded the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza as ground forces fired into the complex, killing at least 12 people, including patients, on Monday.
Dozens more were wounded and around 700 people trapped inside the `besieged` medical centre.
The hospital, set up in 2016 with funding from Indonesian organisations, is located near the Jabalia refugee camp. Like all other health facilities in the northern half of Gaza, the hospital has largely ceased operations but is still sheltering patients, staff and displaced residents. Indonesia`s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Monday condemned Israel`s `attack` on the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.


5. Germany blasts Taliban official`s appearance at Cologne mosque

Germany on Monday condemned an appearance by a Taliban official at a mosque in Cologne, with the interior minister demanding explanations from the Turkish organisation running the administration.
Abdul Bari Omar, who is an official with the Talibanrun health authority in Afghanistan, attended the mosque to speak at a conference organised by an Afghan association in the city
