1. WB urges Pakistan to look at big picture

The World Bank on Tuesday cautioned Pakistan against short-term measures like domestic debt restructuring and attracting onetime investment through a new civil-military initiative, without addressing the country`s `big picture issues` through reforms aimed at improving larger business climate, taxation and human capital.
The `creation of a new institution is no quick fix` to bring investment without improving the taxation system, competitive market conditions and state owned entities, Martin Raiser, the World Bank`s regional vice president for South Asia, said at a news conference


2. ADB gives $180m for water, waste management

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday announced that it had approved a $180 million loan to improve water supply and solid waste management services in Punjab`s two rapidly growing cities Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur.
In a statement, the Manila-based lending agency said the loan was expected to benefit about 1.5 million people through the Developing Resilient Environments and Advancing Municipal Services in Punjab and help curtail excessive groundwater extraction and urban environment degradation by expanding and modernising urban water supply in Rawalpindi and solid waste management systems in Bahawalpur

3. Lahore again on top of the smog club

The provincial metropolis grappling with a severe smog crisis is again ranked world`s most polluted city on Tuesday.
The AQI level in Lahore remained above 250 for most of the day on Tuesday, indicating a very unhealthy air quality, according to the air quality index (AQI) ranking by IQAir, a Swiss air quality technology company.
The highest AQI level was recorded at 10am, with a value of 475, which is close to the hazardous category. The lowest AQI level was recorded at 3pm, with a value of 258, which is still very unhealthy


4. Caretaker PM Kakar reaches Kuwait to cement ties

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar after completing his two-day official visit to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday evening reached Kuwait, where several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be inked between the two states in different fields.
During his two-day visit, the caretaker premier will meet Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al Jaber Al Sabah and his Kuwait counterpart Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah


5. Islamabad gets its first `mediation centre` for dispute resolution

In a first, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has formally inaugurated a mediation centre a forum for Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) that would not only reducethebacklogof18,500casesinthe IHC and over 52,000 cases in the district courts but also provide swift and inexpensive justice to litigants.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the old building of the IHC in Sector G-10. Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Supreme Court, IHC Chief Justice Justice Aamer Farooq, IHC Senior Puisne Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, judges of the district judiciary and lawyers attended the event
