1. SC upholds `contested` law regulating its affairs
In a split, but anticipated decision, the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a law formulated to regulate the affairs of the top court, with a caveat that the right to appeal provided against a decision taken under Article 184(3) will not be applicable retrospectively.
Headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa, the full court announced the judgement at6:25pmfromCourtroom No.1 and effectively rejected all the challenges to the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023. The short order also overturned the April 13, 2023, stay granted by an eight judge bench headed by former CJP Umar Ata Bandial on the enforcement of the act
2. Cabinet okays PIA sale amid skyrocketing losses
The federal cabinet on Wednesday gave the goahead for privatising Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), whose total losses have increased to Rs750 billion.
It also strongly condemned Israel`s aggression on Palestinians, calling it a blatant violation of UN resolutions and demanding an immediate halt to the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza.
The cabinet also approved the appointments of former Lahore High Court judge Sohail Nasir as deputy chairman of the National Accountability Bureau and Syed Ehtesham Qadir Shah as its prosecutor general for accountability. Both positions fell vacant last month. The appointments were later notified
3. Three die in targeted attack on Daska mosque
In what believed to be a targeted attack on a Daska mosque during Fajr prayers on Wednesday, a prayer leader, a religious activist belonging to an outlawed outfit and his security guard were killed.
Quoting Zulfikar Ali, another security guard of Maulana Shahid Latif, police said six unknown people reached the Noori-e-Madina Masjid in Mandike Guraya Chowk on motorbikes and three of them joined the prayers. He said soon some gunshots were heard and within seconds the assailants fled the scene. He said they fired a shot on him as well but he remained unhurt
4. US renews pledge to support Pakistan in post-flood situation

5. Prophethood finality oath to be included in marriage form
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker government has approved amendments to Muslim Family Laws Ordinance,1961, to include oath of finality of Prophethood in the marriage registration form.
The decision was made in the meeting of provincial cabinet here on Tuesday. The meeting, presided over by caretaker Chief Minister Mohammad Azam Khan, was attended by the cabinet members, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry and administrative secretaries, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday
