  1. Consensus eludes CCI on national water policy
    • The Council of Common Interests (CCI) on March 27, 2018 turned into a centre of complaints and clarifications on a set of centre-provincial matters, as it failed to approve the country`s first national water policy that has been on the CCI agenda for almost a year.
    • The CCI meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shahid Khagan Abbasi, however, upheld its previous decision to have revalidation of census results of five per cent blocks through an independent and third party consult-ant not with standing the fast-approaching general elections.
    • The meeting was attended by the chief ministers of all the provinces except Punjab. Instead of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, provincial finance minister Dr Ayesha Ghous Pasha attended the meeting.
  2. Exhibition of Bhagat Singh`s trial case file opens
    • The first ever exhibition of the case file of Bhagat Singh trial, called the Lahore Conspiracy Case, opened in Lahore at the historic Tomb of Anarkali in the Punjab Civil Secretariat on March 27, 2018.
    • Additional Chief Secretary Umar Rasool, who took the initiative to exhibit the case file at the official level, inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of government officials, teachers and students of the National College of Arts and other institutions.
    • The Tomb of Anarkali is the main storehouse of Punjab archives department, and the case file is one of its best assets. The record of Punjab dates back to the Mughal period, also including archives of the Sikh and British eras.
  3. Nine Pakistanis make it to Forbes `30 Under 30` Asia list
    • Nine individuals from Pakistan have been featured on Forbes magazine`s annual `30 Under 30` Asia list released on March 27, 2018.
    • The list, available on the Forbes website, featured 300 young innovators and disruptors who are reinventing their industries and driving change across Asia-Pacific in the categories of arts, enterprise technology, entertainment and sports, social entre-preneurs, celebrities, youngest, finance and venture capital, healthcare and science, industry manufacturing and energy, media marketing and advertising, retail and e-commerce, big money and consumer technology.
    • The nine Pakistanis have been selected through seven entries in the third edition of the annual `30 Under 30` Asia list for their achievements in the categories of entertainment and sports, enterprise technology, retail and e-commerce, social entrepreneurs andhealthcare and science.
    • According to the Forbes, some of Pakistan`s most innovative minds are opting for careers in the critically important sector of healthcare.
  4. Trump White House divided over Pakistan: report
    • The Trump White House is divided over how to deal with Pakistan, with some officials favouring a hardline approach and others warning against alienating a nuclear-armed country of 200 million people, the US media reported on March 27, 2018.
    • The divide reported by the prestigious Foreign Policy magazine is ref lected in recent statements by US officials who continue to urge Pakistan to do more for eliminating terrorism but also acknowledge that Pakistan has taken `some positive steps in the right direction`.
    • According to the report, the hardliners argue that years of aid and accommodation with Pakistan `have produced little in return` and now is the time for some `punitive actions`.
  5. New turbines pass critical test at RLNG plant
    • One of the new RLNG power plants the government is relying on has successfully completed its critical reliability test run.
    • The plant is located in Haveli Bahadur Shah of Jhang district.
    • The project is expected to add up to 1,230 megawatts (MW) to the national grid enough to meet the needs of 2.5 million households.
    • SEPCOIII, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project.
  6. Writers club established in Peshawar
    • The provincial directorate of culture launched the first ever Peshawar Writers Club in Peshawar on March 27, 2018.
    • Director culture Ajmal Khan, deputy director culture Shahbaz Khan, senior writers and journalists were present at the launching ceremony held at the at culture directorate’s auditorium.
  7. Abbasi opens gas processing plant in Kohat
    • Prime Minister Shahid Khagan Abbasi inaugurated the Taulanj gas processing plant on March 27, 2018.
    • The plant with a storage capacity of 20 million cubic feet gas has been completed at a cost $15 million and is expected to generate an annual revenue of $31m.
    • The facility was commissioned on Dec 5 last year by commencing production from Taulanj X-1 and Taulanj West-1 gas wells, the biggest discovery in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa`s Thal Block. It is owned by MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company BV, a subsidiary of MOL group.
    • Abbasi termed the project a classic example of public-private partnership which would meet needs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  8. Saudi Arabia, Russia considering 10-20 year oil alliance
    • Saudi Arabia and Russia are working on a historic long-term pact that could extend controls over world crude supplies by major exporters for many years to come.
    • According to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Riyadh and Moscow were considering a longer deal to extend a short-term alliance on oil curbsthatbeganinJanuary 2017 after a crash in crude prices.
  9. Casts of Mandela hands sell for $10m
    • Gold castings of the hands of South Africa’s first black President Nelson Mandela have been sold for $10m (£7m) in bitcoin. Canadian crypto-currency exchange firm Arbitrade bought four casts from South African businessman Malcolm Duncan.
    • The firm said it planned to launch a global “Golden Hands of Nelson Mandela” tour to educate young people about the anti-apartheid icon’s life.
    • This is the first time artefacts of Mr Mandela have been sold in bitcoin.
  10. Navy retain National Shooting Championship in style
    • Holders Navy maintained their supremacy by retaining the title in the 25th National Shooting Championship which concluded at the PN Shooting Range on March 27, 2018.
    • The Naval shooters amassed 20 golds, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals for the top honours.
    • Army had to be content with runners-up slot picl(ing up 12 golds, 17 silver and 10 bronze
