Operation Sirat-e-Mustaqeem

The Operation Sirat-e-Mustaqeem was a Pakistan Army operation in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency, Federally Administered Tribal Areas. The operation was commenced on June 28, 2008, and was halted by the Army on July 9, 2008.

Operation Sherdil

Important Pakistan Military Operations Sherdil Operation

The Battle of Bajaur or Operation Sherdil was a military offensive in the Bajaur region of Pakistan launched by the Frontier Corps and supported by a Combat Brigade of the Pakistan Army. The Bajaur area had been under Taliban control since early 2007, and was said to be Al-Qaeda’s main command and control hub for operations in Northeast Afghanistan, including Kunar province. Bajaur is now cleared of Taliban.


Operation Khwakh Ba De Sham

The Orakzai and Kurram offensive also known as Operation Khwakh Ba De Sham (I will teach you a lesson) is a Pakistani military operation against the Tehrik-i-Taliban in the Orakzai Agency and Kurram Agency area of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas that began on 23 March 2010. It is part of the ongoing War in North-West Pakistan.

Operation Brekhna

Mohmand Offensive also known as Operation Brekhna is a Pakistani military operation against the Tehrik-i-Taliban in the Mohmand Agency area of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas that began in 2009. It is part of the ongoing War in North-West Pakistan.


Operation Zarb-e-Azb

The operation was launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces on 15 June 2014 in North Waziristan against various militant groups, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jundallah, al-Qaeda, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and the Haqqani network.


Operation Khyber

Khyber is Code Name for a military offensive being conducted by Pakistan’s military in the Khyber Agency. Operation Khyber was originally announced in 2014 as a part of Pakistan Army’s extension of Operation Zarb-e-Azb to parts of Khyber Agency. It was conducted in four phases, with Khyber – 1 to 4


Operation Khyber-1

The operation ‘Khyber-1’ began with airstrikes against Lashkar-e-Islam outs in areas under the Mangal Bagh led group’s control in Tirah and Bara on 17 October 2014, Ultimately killing 21 militants including Mangal Bagh and destroying their three key bases.

Operation Khyber-2

Announced in February 2015 and launched in March 2015, Operation Khyber-2 was aimed to clear the Tirah valley main target being Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. The operation formally ended on 15 June 2015, marking a one-year anniversary of Operation Zarb-e-Azab.


Operation Khyber-3

Launched on 16 August 2016, Khyber-3 intended to clear areas beyond the Tirah Valley closer to the Durand Line nine militant dens were decimated along the border. More than 40 terrorists were killed and 21 injured, the operation ended up greatly affecting the cross border movement of terrorists. The operation Khyber-3 was conceived ended with the start of Khyber-4.


Operation Khyber-4

Operation Khyber-4 was announced on 15 July 2017 as part of Pakistan Army’s ongoing offensive Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad against militancy. The ISPR announced the end of first phase of Operation Khyber-4 on 21 July 2017, declaring the operation to be successful. On 21 August 2017, ISPR announced the successful completion of Operation Khyber-4. The ground objectives in the Rajgal and Shawal valleys were achieved


Operation Rah-e-Haq

The First Battle of Swat, also known as Operation Rah-e-Haq, was fought between Pakistan and the Taliban over control of the Swat on October 25, 2007.


Operation Black Thunderstorm

Aggressive military operation that commenced on April 26, 2009 conducted by the Pakistan Army, with the aim of retaking Buner, Lower Dir, Swat and Shangla districts from the Taliban after the militants took control of them since the start of the year.


Operation Rah-e-Rast

The Second Battle of Swat also known as Operation Rah-e-Rast, began in May 2009 and involved the Pakistani Army and Taliban militants in a fight for control of the Swat district of Pakistan.


Operation Janbaz

The Pakistan Army General Headquarters attack (Codename: Operation Janbaz), was a hostage-rescue mission carried by SSG Division during which, on 10 October 2009, when 10 gunmen in military uniform opened fire on the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan.


Operation Rah-e-Nijat

The Operation Rah-e-Nijat (Path to Salvation) was a strategic offensive military operation by the unified command of Pakistan Armed Forces against the Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) in the South Waziristan that began on June 19, 2009; a major ground-naval-air offensive was subsequently launched on October 17.

The Siege of Lal Masjid (code-named Operation Sunrise) was a confrontation in July 2007 between Islamic fundamentalist militants and the Government of Pakistan


Operation Raddul Fasad

The armed forces launched a country-wide crackdown code named ‘Raddul Fasad’ (Elimination of Mischief) against terrorists and extremists. The operation entailed the conduct of Broad Spectrum Security (Counter Terrorism) operations by Rangers in Punjab, continuation of ongoing operations across the country and focus on more effective border security management.


Operation Zarb-e-Ahan

A ground operation against Chotu Gang, codenamed Zarb-i-Ahan, began in the riverine Kacha areas of Rajanpur district earlier April 2016. On the 18th day of Operation Zarb-e-Ahan in South Punjab by the Rangers and Police, the ISPR announced that the Pakistan Army had taken charge of the operation and launched a full-fledged ground and aerial offensive in Rajanpur against the notorious Chottu gang.


Operation Safed Sagar

Operation Safed Sagar was the code name assigned to the Indian Air Force’s strike to support the Ground troops during Kargil war that was aimed to flush out Regular and Irregular troops of the Pakistani Army from vacated Indian Positions in the Kargil sector along the Line of Control. It was the first large scale use of air power in the Jammu and Kashmir region since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.


Operation Trident

Operation Trident was an offensive operation launched by the Indian Navy on Pakistan’s port city of Karachi during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Operation Trident saw the first use of anti-ship missiles in combat in the region. The operation was conducted on the night of 4–5 December and inflicted heavy damage on Pakistani vessels and facilities.


Operation Dwarka

Operation Dwarka was a naval operation by the Pakistan Navy to attack the Indian coastal town of Dwarka on 7 September 1965. This was the first use of Pakistan Navy in any of the Indo-Pakistan Wars. It was one of the significant naval events of the 1965 Indo-Pak war, and Pakistan celebrates 8 September as “Victory Day” for Pakistan Navy.


Operation Gibraltar

Operation Gibraltar was the codename given to the strategy of Pakistan to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir, and start a rebellion against Indian rule. Pakistan specifically choose this name to draw a parallel to the Arab invasion of Spain that was launched from the port of Gibraltar. The operation sparked the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, the first major engagement between the two neighbours since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947.


Operation Chengiz Khan

Operation Chengiz Khan was the code name assigned to the preemptive strikes carried out by the Pakistani Air Force on the forward airbases and radar installations of the Indian Air Force on 3 December 1971, and marked the formal initiation of hostilities of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The operation targeted 11 of India’s airfields and also included artillery strikes on Indian positions in Kashmir.


Operation Grand Slam

Operation Grand Slam was a key operation of the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War. It refers to a plan drawn up by the Pakistan Army, in May 1965, to attack the vital Akhnoor Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. The bridge was not only the lifeline of an entire infantry division in Jammu and Kashmir, but could also be used to threaten Jammu, an important logistical point for Indian forces.


Operation Fair Play

Operation Fair Play was the code name for the 5 July 1977 coup by Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, overthrowing the government of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.


Operation Midnight Jackal

Operation Midnight Jackal was a covert-intelligence operation that was reported as one of high profile political scandal during the first government of Prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 1989. The Midnight Jackal was exposed by “IB” when it had obtained a conversation of two active-duty army officers of ISI to topple down the government of Benazir Bhutto. This operation “Mid-night Jackal” was headed by Masood Khattak


Operation Cyclone

Operation Cyclone was the code name for the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) program to arm and finance the mujahideen, in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989, prior to and during the military intervention by the USSR in support of its client, the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. The program leaned heavily towards supporting militant Islamic groups that were favored by the regime of Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in neighboring Pakistan, rather than other, less ideological Afghan resistance groups that had also been fighting the Marxist-oriented Democratic Republic of Afghanistan regime since before the Soviet intervention. Operation Cyclone was one of the longest and most expensive covert CIA operations ever undertaken; funding began with just over $500,000 in 1979, was increased dramatically to $20–$30 million per year in 1980 and rose to $630 million per year in 1987


Operation Tupac

Operation Tupac is the existing codename of an ongoing cold war military intelligence contingency program run by the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, active since the 1980s. The program has a three-part action plan for covert support of militancy and terrorism in Indian-held Kashmir. It was authorized and initiated by order of the President of Pakistan Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in 1988,


Operation Sun Rising

Operation Sun Rising was a cold war military intelligence program run by the ISI or Pakistan during the late 1970s. In the 1970s, the program was launched when the ISI believed the President Jimmy Carter’s administration was planning of sabotaging and infiltrating the highly clandestine atomic bomb projects. The program purpose was to collect intelligence cycle on potential contingency plans of Carter administration sabotaging of certain bomb-related installations and facilities. The program was initiated in 1979 by Imtiaz Ahmed, then chief of Intelligence Bureau.


Operation Blue Fox | Pakistan Military Operations

Operation Clean-up (other codename: Operation Blue Fox), was an armed military intelligence program led by the Sindh Police and Pakistan Rangers, with an additional assistance from the Pakistan Army and its related intelligence agencies. Planned by the FIA, Intelligence Bureau and launched under the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1992, the program was more roughly pursued by upcoming Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 1993–94, as part of her internal policies. Its objective was to “cleanse” Karachi city of “anti-social” elements. The program targeted the Muttahida Qaumi Movement over the controversy regarding the Jinnahpur plan— which supposedly planned on having the city of Karachi break away from Pakistan.


Operation Zalzala | Pakistan Military Operations

The Operation Zalzala was a Pakistan Army military offensive manhunt and a counter-insurgent operation that was commenced on January 18 of 2008.


Operation Jackpot | Pakistan Military Operations

Operation Jackpot was the codename for several military operations during the Pak Indo War in 1971. Indian Army Eastern Command initiated the original “Operation Jackpot”, an integrated logistical and training operation for the Mukti Bahini on 15 August 1971.


Operation Searchlight | Pakistan Military Operations

Operation Searchlight was a planned military operation carried out by the Pakistan Army to curb the Bengali nationalist movement in the erstwhile East Pakistan in March 1971.


Operation Barisal | Pakistan Military Operations

Operation Barisal was a code-name of naval operation conducted by Pakistan Navy intended to free the city of Barisal, East Pakistan from Mukti Bahinis. It was the part of Operation Searchlight.


PNS Mehran operation | Pakistan Military Operations

The PNS Mehran attack was an attack/shooting by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al Qaeda which took place on 22 May 2011, at PNS Mehran, the headquarters of the Pakistan Navy’s Naval Air Arm and the most populous Pakistani military installation. It is located near the PAF’s Faisal Air Force Base of Karachi, Sindh. In the course of the event, 15 attackers killed 18 military personnel and wounded 16 in a sophisticated terrorist attack. Two American-built P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft were destroyed. It was the biggest attack on the Navy and its assets since 1971, and is believed to be the last major attack of militant mastermind Ilyas Kashmiri. The Special Service Group Navy (SSG(N)), carried out the counter-attack, which was the largest operation led by SSG(N) since Operation Jackpot of 1971.


Operation Blitz | Pakistan Military Operations

Operation Blitz which had been launched in November 1970. The original plan envisioned taking control of the major cities of East Pakistan on 26 March, and then eliminating all opposition, political or military, within one month.
