The Ideal of Islamic Civilization and its Characteristics (CSS Islamic Studies Notes)

The Ideal of Islamic Civilization and its Characteristics (CSS Islamic Studies Notes)

At the very start of this discussion, it should be evident that the whole issue of an ideal is deeply linked with the subject of worldview or Weltanschauung. Whatever view we maintain about the temporal world and whatever view we have about our role in that temporal world and the place of the corporeal world in our lives naturally generates an ideal for life. Accordingly, we begin to spend all our energies towards the establishment of that ideal. If we consider the world to be a pasture, and our view of life defines it’s as time period granted us for eating, drinking and being merry, then this animalistic concept will necessarily inculcate within our beings a primeval and corporeal ideal. We will then spend all our lives in efforts to obtain the materials that impart sensual pleasure.

Important Battles of Islam

A battle or Military Expedition in which the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took part in himself with a large army is called in Arabic, غزوة “Ghazwa”. The Imams and Scholars have reported and narrated the number of “Ghazawat” غزوات plural of Ghazwa differently. According to Imam Bukhari (RA) 17 battles took place. Imam Muslim (RA) narrated 19. Hakim (RA) narrated 21. Others have said 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27. Ibn Ishaq (RA) has quoted that 27 is the correct amount and majority of the Muhaqqiqeen have agreed on this number. Ibn Ishaq (RA) narrated that out of these 27 battles, in only 9 of them fighting took place. They are the Battles of: Badr, Uhud, Bani Mustalaq, Khandaq, Bani Quraizhah, Khayber, Fathu Makkah, Hunain, and Taif.

Seerah of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) As Educator | CSS Islamic Studies Notes

According to the Quran, the Prophet (PBUH) is responsible for tabligh (delivering the message): “O Messenger, proclaim the (message) which hath been sent to thee from thy Lord. If thou didst not, thou wouldst not have fulfilled and proclaimed His mission. And Allah will defend thee from men (who mean mischief). For Allah guided not those who reject Faith.” (Al-Maida 5/67). “The Messenger’s duty is but to proclaim (the message). But Allah knoweth all that ye reveal and ye conceal” (Al-Maida 5/99). The lexicographical meaning of “tabligh” is to deliver, inform, and spread. As a term, it points to the Prophet’s delivering the message to humans exactly as he received it from Allah. This is one of the inalienable qualities of prophets. If the thing to be delivered is information, a message, or news, then teaching is an issue, as well. In fact, some dictionaries define “tabligh” as teaching. This shows the relation between “tabligh” and teaching.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) is a role model for the mankind in all fields of life. He set the most perfect standards for the conduct of diplomats as well. All through his life, he was always conscious of maintaining cordial relations between Muslims and other communities. The Holy Prophet (PBUH), for the first time, came into contact with foreign world during his teenage when he went on a trade journey to Syria along with his uncle Hazrat Abu Talib. Then, during his youth he again went to Syria as a trade agent of Hazrat Khadijah (R.A). The Holy Prophet (PBUH) showed great attributes during these journeys. Hazrat Khadijah (R.A), a rich and highly influential businesswoman of that time, was so much impressed that she sent proposal for marriage to the Prophet (PBUH) that was accepted. This marriage had great impact on the life of the Prophet (PBUH) as it stabilized his financial status which enabled him to fully concentrate on propagation of Islam.
