1. Governor issues ordinance to limit LDA`s powers

• Governor Chaudhry Sarwar on April 13, 2021 issued an ordinance to amend the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Act, 1975 under which Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana Sahib are no longer pan of the authority.
• The governor, while acknowledging the demands of provincial ministers, assembly members and the public, on Tuesday issued the ordinance to amend the LDA Act, 1975 and limit the powers of the LDA to Lahore only


2. Atif among four sworn in as ministers

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman administered oath to the four newly-inducted ministers into the provincial cabinet during a ceremony held at the Governor`s House here on April 13, 2021.
• Those who took oath included Atif Khan, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Shakeel Ahmed Khan and Faisal Amin Gandapur.
• Atif Khan and Shakeel Khan were earlier sacked from the provincial cabinet, while Faisal Amin Gandapur, the brother of federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and Fazal Shakoor Khan have been included in the cabinet for the first time.


3. Pakistan to open consulate in Munich to tap potential: FM

• Pakistan, in a bid to tap economic potential with Germany, will soon open a consulate in Munich, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced on April 13, 2021.
• Talking to media personnel in the German capital, Mr Qureshi said Pakistan and Germany had great prospects for cooperation in trade and investment and expressed confidence that the new consulate would expedite matters in this regard.
• The foreign minister said a consul general would be appointed at the Munich mission to supplement the diplomatic efforts of the country`s embassy in Berlin


4. US recommends `pause` for J&J vaccine over clot reports

• The US is recommending a pause in using the single dose Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to investigate reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.
• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said on April 13, 2021 they were investigating unusual clots that occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination.


5. India, big vaccine exporter, now seeks imports as Covid cases soar

• India is to fast-track emergency approvals for Covid-19 vaccines that have been authorised by Western countries and Japan, paving the way for possible imports of Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna shots.
• The move, which will drop the need for companies to do small, local safety trials for their vaccines before seeking emergency approval, follows the world`s biggest surge in cases in the country this month.
• India has the biggest vaccine manufacturing capacity in the world and had exported tens of millions of doses before its own demand skyrocketed and led to a shortage in some states


6. Biden plans to pull out all US troops from Afghanistan by Sept 11

• All US troops will leave Afghanistan by Sept 11 and the withdrawal will start before May 1, a deadline set in the US-Taliban agreement signed last year, a senior administration official told reporters on April 13, 2021.
• `We will begin an orderly drawdown of the remaining forces before May 1 and plan to have all US troops out of the country before the 20th anniversary of 9/11,` the official said. The US still has some 2,500 troops in Afghanistan.
• At a hurriedly called virtual conference, the official also said that US President Joe Biden would formally announce the pullout schedule on April 14, 2021 (today).


7. Iran vows to ramp up uranium enrichment closer to weapons-grade

• Iran warned on April 13, 2021 it will start enriching uranium up to 60 percent purity, two days after an explosion it blamed on Israel damaged its enrichment plant in Natanz.
• The announcement cast a shadow over ongoing multinational talks in Vienna aimed at salvaging the tattered 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.
• Tehran has written to the UN`s International Atomic Energy Agency to announce `that Iran will start 60 percent enrichment, the state-run IRNA news agency reported


8. Egypt `seizes` Suez megaship, demands $900m compensation

• The megaship which blocked Egypt`s Suez Canal and crippled world trade for nearly a week has been `seized` on court orders until the vessel`s owners pay $900 million, canal authorities said April 13, 2021.
• The 200,000-tonne MV Ever Given got diagonally stuck in the narrow but crucial global trade artery in a sandstorm on March 23, triggering a mammoth six day-long effort by Egyptian personnel and international salvage specialists to dislodge it


9. Arshad wins gold, improves his SAG record

• Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan`s premier javelin thrower, continued his fine performance as he earned gold medal at the Imam Raza Athletics Cup in Iran.
• According to the information received here from Mashhad on Tuesday, the 24-year-old Arshad in the process set a new Pakistan record by throwing the javelin at a distance of 86.38 metres to claim the gold medal in Mashhad where the event was staged


10. Chinese women seal Olympic spot

• China`s women sealed a last-ditch spot at the Tokyo Olympics football on April 13, 2021 by squeezing past South Korea 4-3 on aggregate, a thrilling conclusion to a qualifying campaign dogged by coronavirus delays.
• Former Paris Saint-Germain forward Wang Shuang scored the winner in extra time in front of 13,000 jubilant fans in Suzhou, after South Korea recovered from a 2-1 first-leg home deficit.
• Wuhan native Wang lashed the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the box in the first period of extra time to torpedo South Korea`s hopes of playing at the Olympics for the first time
