8. France, Spain to build hydrogen pipeline at a cost of $2.6bn

• France and Spain have agreed in principle to build an underwater pipeline between Marseille and Barcelona at a cost of $2.6 billion to carry green hydrogen, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Friday, adding he hoped the European Union would partly fund the project.
• The pipeline will have a capacity of two million tonnes a year and be ready by the end of the decade, Sanchez said at a summit of Mediterranean European Union leaders in the south-eastern Spanish port city of Alicante.
• The decision to pursue the project comes as an energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine has accelerated European plans to bolster renewable energy as an alternative to Russian gas


9. Xi`s visit ends Saudi Arabia`s `monogamous marriage`

• The United States is not asking Saudi Arabia to choose between Washington and Beijing, but it does see Chinese President Xi Jinping`s visit to the country as an attempt to exert influence in the region.
• The comments came at two separate briefings this week at the White House and the State Department as Mr Xi completed his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia.
• `It`s certainly not a surprise that President Xi is travelling around,` John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, told reporters on Wednesday. `We are mindful of the influence that China is trying to grow around the world


10. Argentina survive Dutch scare to reach semi-final

• Argentine goalkeeper Emi Martinez saved penalties from Virgil van Dijk and Steven Berghuis before Lautaro Martinez scored the winning spot kick to secure them a 4-3 shootout win over the Netherlands on December 09, 2022 after their World Cup quarter-final finished 2-2 after 120 minutes.
• In a scrappy half-hour of extra time with the scores level, Enzo Fernandez rattled the post in the closing seconds while Martinez and German Pezzella also had efforts blocked or parried away as Argentina desperately pushed for a winner.
• Argentina will next face Croatia in the semifinal
