6. `Five Pakistani journalists among 67 killed this year`

• Five Pakistani journalists are among the 67 media personnel killed so far during 2022 in the line of duty, according to figures released by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on December 11, 2022.
• IFJ renewed its call for concrete actions to protect the safety and freedoms of journalists as it recorded a spike in the numbers of journalists killed or imprisoned during 2022. Last year, 47 journalists were killed, IFJ said.
• The Pakistani journalists, who lost lives in 2022 and recorded in the IFJ list, were: Hasnain Shah, Ziaur Rehman Faroogi, Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Younis and Sadaf Naeem


7. Livestock produces large share of GHG emissions: WB

• Although Pakistan is a minor contributor to climate change, livestock produces a large share of the country`s Green House Gases (GHG) emissions, reveals a World Bank study.
• It states that total national emissions represent 0.7 per cent of global emissions, but livestock alone generates 36pc of this amount. This calls for adequate measures to reduce livestock emissions through better feeding and manure management, emphasised the latest study titled, `Sindh`s Livestock: Getting to know an important but neglected sector` It is estimated that the country`s livestock sub-sector contributes 11.7pc to GDP, and as muchas 56-60.6pc to the overall agriculture GDP.
• The contribution of livestock to GDP and agricultural GDP in Sindh specifically is not known but is assumed to be slightly lower than at the national level. Livestock is also a source of foreign exchange earnings, with 3.1pc of exports and being the fifth largest export

8. Under-fire Greek MEP loses VP powers over Qatar graft probe

• A Greek MEP had her powers as a vice president of the European Parliament suspended on December 11, 2022 over a corruption probe implicating World Cup hosts Qatar that has ensnared four other sand sparked calls for `root and branch reform` in the EU institution.
• European Parliament president Roberta Metsola `has decided to suspend with immediate effect all powers, duties and tasks that were delegated to Eva Kaili in her capacity as Vice President of the European Parliament,` a spokesperson said.

9. Nasa`s Orion capsule returns to Earth after flight around moon

• NASA`s Orion capsule barreled through Earth`s atmosphere and splashed down in the Pacific ocean on December 11, 2022 after making an un-crewed voyage around the moon, winding up the inaugural mission of the US agency`s Artemis lunar programme 50 years to the day after Apollo`s final moon landing.
• The gumdrop-shaped Orion capsule, carrying a simulated crew of three mannequins wired with sensors, plunked down in the ocean at 9:40am PST (1740 GMT) off Mexico`s Baja California peninsula, executing a key demonstration of how future lunar astronauts would safely return to Earth.


10. Japanese startup launches historic moon mission

• A Japanese startup`s spacecraft was launched to the Moon on December 11, 2022 in the country`s first-ever lunar mission and the first of its kind by a private company.
• The launch was carried out by Elon Musk`s SpaceX in Cape Canaveral in the US state of Florida after two postponements for additional pre-flight checks.
• The spacecraft, produced by Tokyo-based startup ispace, blasted off aboard a Falcon 9 rocket at 2:38am, live footage of the launch showed
