1. Pakistan to host OIC`s extraordinary session on 19th

• Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says Pakistan is set to host an extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to plan to avert a humanitarian crisis which is rearing its head in Afghanistan following US withdrawal. `It will be a historic and costly mistake to abandon Afghanistan at this critical juncture, which may lead to a humanitarian crisis, economic collapse and eventual instability in the region,` he said.
• The foreign minister said the session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad on Dec 19 would bring world leaders` attention towards the fact that lack of prompt response would lead to food shortages for some 22.8 million people and affect about 3.2m children with malnutrition in Afghanistan. He said the conference would help mobilise resources to help Afghanistan and added that Pakistan was already providing wheat, other edible items and medicines. He assured that India would be facilitated if it would send wheat through Pakistani land, as announced


2. Pakistan begins supplying free medicines to Afghanistan

• Pakistan has started supplying free medicines to Afghanistan in a move to strengthen its assistance to the neighbouring country facing serious medical and health challenges.
• The first consignment of medicines worth Rs25 million was dispatched from Karachi for treatment of viral diseases, regular drugs for common diseases among elders and stock of supplies used in emergencies.
• `This is the first consignment of our plan of medical assistance in Afghanistan,` said Atif Iqbal of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA). `After a week or so we would be dispatching another such consignment worth Rs100m.The industry has responded to appeal from Afghanistan`s health minister who had recently sought support from Pakistan`s health sector including healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical industry.` He said the industry was also sorting out immediate medical needs of Afghanistan and coordinating with member manufacturers in all major cities of Pakistan


3. PM`s aide hails arrival of $3bn from Saudi Arabia

• The State Bank of Pakistan on December 4, 2021 said it has received $3 billion from the Saudi Fund for Development to keep the US dollars in its account to enhance its foreign reserves.
• Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin also announced that the SBP had received Saudi Arabia`s $3bn deposit. `Good news, $3bn Saudi deposit received by SBP.
• I want to thank His Excellency Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and [the] kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the kind gesture,` he tweeted.
• Pakistan received the Saudi fund after its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund in Washington for resumption of loans succeeded


4. US vows to stop Russia from invading Ukraine

• US President Joe Biden said he would make it `very, very difficult` for Russia to launch any invasion of Ukraine, which warned that a largescale attack may be planned for next month.
• Washington and Kiev say Moscow has massed troops near Ukraine`s borders and accuse Russia of planning an invasion.
• Biden and President Vladimir Putin are due to hold a video call shortly to discuss the rising tensions, both sides confirmed on Friday


5. Air defence test sparks loud blast near Iran nuclear site

• An air defence test triggered a loud explosion near Iran`s Natanz uranium enrichment facility on Saturday as nuclear talks with major powers stumble.
• The explosion was heard in the skies over the Iranian city of Badroud, just 20km from the nuclear plant, the official IRNA news agency reported.
• `Badroud residents heard the noise and saw a light which showed an object had just blown up in the skies over the city,` a witness said


6. Macron says France, S. Arabia to work to resolve Lebanon row

• France and Saudi Arabia have committed to `fully engage` to resolve a diplomatic row between the Gulf kingdom and Lebanon, visiting French President Emmanuel Macron said on December 4, 2021.
• His announcement came after meeting in the Red Sea city of Jeddah with Saudi Arabia`s de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, with whom Macron said he had a `no taboos` discussion about human rights.
• Macron said that he and Prince Mohammed held a joint telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in an effort to resolve the crisis that was sparked in October between Beirut and several Gulf states in particular Saudi Arabia, which had blocked imports


7. Total solar eclipse plunges Antarctica into darkness

• A total solar eclipse plunged Antarctica from summer into darkness early on December 4, 2021 in a rare astronomical spectacle witnessed by a handful of scientists and thrill-seekers and countless penguins.
• `The visibility was excellent,` said Raul Cordero of the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH), who was on site to witness `totality` at 0746 GMT, with the `ring of fire` phase lasting just over 40 seconds.
• Solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting its shadow on Earth. For the eclipse to be total, the Sun, Moon and Earth must be directly aligned


8. Pakistan take 11th spot at Hockey Jr World Cup

• Pakistan earned a poor 11th place in the ongoing FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar, India after beating Poland 5-0 in the 11-12 position match on December 4, 2021.
• Pakistan scored three goals through penalty-corners and two in field attempts.
• Rizwan Ali scored a brace while Rana Wahid, Moin Shakill and Hammad-ud-din chipped in with one goal each.


9. Sahil wins Quaid-e-Azam Trial Cup

• Displaying a combination of endurance and speed, fancied Derby-winning bay colt Sahil coasted to exciting 10 lengths victory over bay horse Royal Ransom to lift the Quaid-e Azam Trial Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting here at the Karachi Racecourse on December 4, 2021.
• Sahil, who finished off the frame in his maiden run at the course on Nov 20, was at his best and won hands-down to add another feather to his cap. He clocked one minute, 42 2/5 seconds for the one-mile race.


10. Ajaz equals 10-for record but India on top in Mumbai Test

• New Zealand`s Mumbai-born spinner Ajaz Patel took a record 10 wickets in an innings but their batsmen collapsed to leave India in control of the second Test here at the Wankhede Stadium on December 4, 2021.
• Ajaz emulated England`s off spinner Jim Laker (1956 vs Australia, Old Trafford) and Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble (1999 vs Pakistan, New Delhi) to complete his perfect 10 in the second session and bowl out India for 325.
• But New Zealand`s batsmen collapsed to 62 all out and India were 332 ahead by stumps at the Wankhede Stadium after not enforcing the follow-on and reaching 69 for 0 in their second innings
