6. KP govt tables bill to let CM hire private aircraft, helicopter

• An official bill landed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday seeking power for the chief minister to hire an aircraft or helicopter from the open market or requisition it from the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) or federal government for official use bearing its charges.
• The government already owns two helicopters, including the Soviet-designed Mi-17, with the chief minister and cabinet members using them for official purposes.
• Recently, former prime minister Imran Khan attracted widespread criticism after using the provincial government`s helicopter during rallies against the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif administration. He was accompanied by CM Mahmood Khan


7. Pakistan`s Navid Hanif gets senior UN position

• UN Secretary General António Guterres on June 10, 2022 announced the appointment of Navid Hanif of Pakistan as assistant secretary general for economic development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
• He succeeds Elliot Harris of Trinidad and Tobago.
• Mr Hanif brings to the position more than 30 years of experience in national and international civil service.
• He is currently the director of the financing for sustainable development office in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs


8. WB okays $300 million for rural roads

• The World Bank has approve d $300 million financing for the upgradation of rural roads in the most vulnerable districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to `provide safe and reliable access to schools, health facilities and markets`.
• The World Bank`s resident mission announced in Islamabad on Friday that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Rural Accessibility Project (KPR A P) approved by the bank`s executive directors would provide safe and affordable transportation to primary and middle schools, especially for young girls, in remote areas, which had the lowest enrollment and attendance rates.
• `The project will also improve connectivity to markets and provincial centers to support income generation for rural farmers by reducing transportation costs and travel times,` it said. World Bank country director for Pakistan Najy Bemhassine said the project took a climate-smart approach that built resilience into the design of transportation infrastructure, which was critical to improving the reliability and connectivity of rural road networks in KP, especially for remote areas most at risk to extreme weather


9. China will `not hesitate to start war` over Taiwan, Beijing tells Washington

• Beijing will `not hesitate to start a war` if Taiwan declares independence, China`s defence minister warned his US counterpart on Friday, the latest salvo between the superpowers over the island.
• The warning from Wei Fenghe came as he held his first face-to-face meeting with US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue security summit in Singapore.
• Beijing has vowed to one day seize Taiwan, by force if necessary, and US-China tensions over the issue have soared in recent months


10. Nawaz spins Pakistan to series-clinching victory over WI

• If the opening game was close, this one was done and dusted as soon as Mohammad Nawaz put the West Indies under a spell with his spin.
• Nawaz ripped the heart out of the tourists` batting line-up at the Multan Cricket Stadium as Pakistan cruised to a 120run victory in the second One day International on Friday that gave the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series.
• It was Nawaz`s six in the final over that took Pakistan past the line in the first ODI for Pakistan on Wednesday and this time the all-rounder did it with the ball, picking up 4-19 as West Indies folded for 155 in their pursuit of 278.
