6. Balochistan gets women police station after 28 years

• The first police station for women in Balochistan opened its doors on March 4, 2022. The facility in the provincial capital was inaugurated by Inspector General Police (IGP) Balochistan Mohsin Hassan Butt.
• The police station dedicated to serve women in Balochistan came into existence 28 years after the first such facility was set up in the country. Pakistan`s first women police station was inaugurated by late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Islamabad onJanuary25,1994.
• Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, IGP Balochistan said, `Keeping in mind the traditional environment of the province, I have been striving to establish a separate police station for women so that they can lodge their complaints with confidence in a peaceful environment


7. Ukraine accuses Russian troops of rape, backs creation of special tribunal

• Ukraine`s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on March 4, 2022 accused Russian troops of raping women and backed a call for the creation of a special tribunal to punish Moscow`s aggression.
• `We have numerous cases of, unfortunately, when Russian soldiers rape women in the Ukrainian cities,` Kuleba told a briefing at London`s Chatham House think tank.
• He did not provide details but supported an appeal by former British prime minister Gordon Brown and a swathe of international law experts for a special tribunal. International law `is the only tool of civilisation that is available to us to make sure that in the end, eventually, all those who made this war possible will be brought to justice,` Kuleba said, as civilian casualties mount in Ukraine

9. UN panel to probe rights violations during war

• In a diplomatic victory for Ukraine, the UN Human Rights Council on March 4, 2022 overwhelmingly voted to create a top-level investigation into violations committed following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine.
• However, in a setback for the war-torn country, Nato declined to impose a no-fly-zone over it, despite Kyiv`s appeals for urgent measures to stop Russian bombardments.
• Thirty-two members of the 47-seat UN rights council voted to establish the highest-level probe possible into alleged rights violations, in a bid to hold perpetrators responsible.
