1. Fake CNICs sore point in FATF talks: FBR

• Transactions against fake identity cards make it difficult for the government`s negotiators to argue with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Dr Muhammad Ashfaq said on March 13, 2022.
• He said cases related to Rs3.5 trillion taxes would soon be disposed of as the judiciary has promised to resolve this issue `out of the way`.
• `It becomes difficult to argue with the international community when business on such a large scale is done against fake CNICs. This situation complicates issues with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF),` the FBR chief said while speaking to the business community here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on March 13, 2022


2. Navy`s firepower show marks end of Sea spark phase

• Pakistan Navy fleet units demonstrated their firepower, combat readiness and war fighting potential through live weapon firing of antiship missiles and torpedoes in the North Arabian Sea on March 13, 2022.
• Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammed Amjad Khan Niazi witnessed the live weapons firing along with senior tri-services officers.
• Reaffirming PN`s war fighting capability and combat potential, Pakistan Navy ships, aircraft and submarines successfully hit their intended targets during the demonstration
• The live weapons firing was conducted on the culmination of the sea phase of PN`s major maritime exercise Seaspark-2022. The exercise was conducted to validate the operational plans and war preparedness of the Pakistan Navy.


3. Pakistan to send emergency aid to war-hit Ukraine

• In an apparent balancing act, Pakistan will send emergency aid to Ukraine as a message of solidarity to the war-stricken people.
• A decision to this effect was taken by the federal cabinet through circulation of an emergency summary for allocation of about Rs60 million along with two aircraft to deliver aid goods in Poland.
• Informed sources said a decision about sending of aid to Ukraine had been taken on the request of the Ukrainian embassy in Islamabad for humanitarian assistance along with a list of urgently-needed items


4. Over 8.2m overseas Pakistanis registered with Nadra

• National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) chairman Tariq Malik on March 13, 2022 said over 8.2 million overseas Pakistanis holding National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (Nicop) had been registered with Nadra and vowed to provide digital solution to most of the problems faced by them.
• `Nadra is a learning organisation and I do not want to miss any opportunity to interact with the overseas Pakistanis to learn from them to improve the system and address the common issues facing them,` he said while addressing the Overseas Pakistanis International Conference (OPIC).
• Mr Malik said the number of overseas Pakistanis possessing both Nicop and machine-readable passports was over six million, adding that as many as 0.465m of them had opened Roshan digital account powered by Nadra, fetching revenues to the tune of $3.6 billion


5. Turkey, Greece seek common ground over Ukraine

• Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held talks in Istanbul on March 13, 2022, seeking a rapprochement against the backdrop of Russia`s invasion of Ukraine.
• `The meeting focused on the benefits of increased cooperation between the two countries` in view of `the evolution of the European security architecture`, the Turkish presidency said in a statement after two hours of talks.
• `Despite the disagreements between Turkey and Greece, it was agreed… to keep the channels of communication open and to improve bilateral relations,` the statement added, saying the two leaders discussed the conflict in Ukraine and their differences in the eastern Mediterranean
