1. Major power tariff relief for industries

• Prime Minister Imran Khan on November 3, 2020 announced a massive three-year relief package for the industrial sector, considerably reducing rate of commercial electricity on additional usage by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and omitting peak-hour charges to encourage manufacturing.
• The government also decided to fix a minimum support price of wheat that could be slightly over Rs1,600 per 40kg. At present, the support price of the commodity is Rs1,400.
• These decisions were taken during the federal cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister House


2. Pakistan receives 45 stolen relics from US

• A relic showing Gautama Buddha meditating under the tree of awakening was among the 45 antiquities that the Manhattan District Attorney`s office returned to the people of Pakistan this week.
• The repatriated items include a Gandharan frieze featuring seven figures of Buddha beside a Bodhisattva Maitreya (a friendly Buddha), a Gandharan box of religious relics and a gray schist relief of Panchika and his consort Hariti Panchika


3. $2m ADB grant to strengthen fight against Covid-19

• The government on November 3, 2020 signed a $2 million grant agreement with the Asian Development Bank to strengthen efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
• The grant financed from the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund will help provide life-saving medical supplies, diagnostic and laboratory facilities and other critical equipment for communities affected by the pandemic.
• Economic Affairs Division Secretary Noor Ahmed and ADB Country Director for Pakistan Xiaohong Yang signed the agreement


4. Bosnian leader arrives on two-day visit today (November 4, 2020)

• Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferovic, accompanied by a high-level delegation including the minister for security and presidential advisers, will arrive here on November 4, 2020 on a two-day official visit to Pakistan.
• Mr Dzaferovic is paying the visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, a Foreign Office spokesperson said in a press statement issued on November 3, 2020. During the visit, the chairman of the presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina will meet the prime minister and the president, besides having meetings with the speaker of National Assembly, foreign minister, adviser to the PM on commerce and investment and other dignitaries


5. Nominee rules for NSS certificate holders changed

• The government has changed the nominee rules for investors and certificate holders of National Savings Schemes (NSS) on the court orders to ensure payment of dues to `legal heirs` instead of `nominated persons` as required under Muslim Law of Inheritance.
• The finance ministry on November 3, 2020 said the Sindh High Court (SHC), in its judgement of Aug 23, 2016 had ordered the authorities to align NSS rules and procedures so that payment of principal amount and profit thereon (if any), in case of death of a certificate purchaser/investor, would be made to his/her legal heirs according to the succession certificate issued by a court in accordance with Muslim Law of Inheritance that was currently applicable in Pakistan


6. Chohan gets additional charge of prisons dept

• Punjab colonies minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, who was unceremoniously relieved of additional charge of information and culture on November 2, 2020, was compensated here on November 3, 2020 with yet another additional portfolio — the prisons department.
• Immediately after assuming the prisons department charge, the firebrand minister sought details of the facilities being provided to Shehbaz Sharif, leader of Opposition in National Assembly, and his son Hamza, holding the same portfolio in the Punjab Assembly, who are in jail


7. Dubai ruler joins coronavirus vaccine trial

• Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum said on November 3, 2020 he had received an experimental coronavirus vaccine, becoming the latest United Arab Emirates official to take part in the trials.
• Two vaccines are undergoing third-phase trials in the UAE, one produced by Chinese drug giant Sinopharm, and Russia’s Sputnik-V, named after the Soviet-era satellite


8. Anxious Americans show up for an election like no other

• Whether she knew it or not, Claire D`Angelo spoke for millions of Americans as she stood in the cold after voting early on November 3, 2020 morning, a black mask covering her f ace.
• `To say that I`m nervous or anxious about it is an understatement,` said the 45-year-old restaurant worker who voted for Joe Biden in the city of Easton in Pennsylvania, an important swing state in the election


9. Zimbabwe stun Pakistan in Super Over

• Zimbabwe scored a consolation victory against Pakistan in dramatic circumstances after the third and final One day International ended in a tie at the Pindi Cricket Stadium here on November 3, 2020.
• Chasing 279, Pakistan captain Babar Azam led a gallant recovery with a sublime century run-a-ball 125 after the hosts had slumped to 88-5 in the 18th over. In the end, tail-ender Mohammad Musa Khan struck a last-ball boundary off Richard Ngarava to level the scores at 278-9 after 50 overs


10. Watson retires from all cricket

• Australian all rounder Shane Watson retired from all forms of cricket on November 3, 2020, drawing the curtain on an injury plagued career which he managed to extend by reinventing himself as a journeyman Twenty20 specialist.
• Watson ended his Test career in 2015 and quit international cricket the next year, surrendering in his battle against a litany of injuries that bedevilled his career.
