1. Pakistan accepts costliest-ever LNG cargo amid gas crisis

• Pakistan on November 6, 2021 accepted an LNG cargo at the highest-ever price of $30.6 per Million British Thermal Units (mmbtu) from Qatar Petroleum on the grounds of averting a possible gas crisis in the upcoming peak winter month.
• The Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) had floated emergency bids for two cargoes to be supplied in November, as the firms involved, Gunvor and ENI, had defaulted on their commitments.
• The PLL has short and long term agreements with Gunvor and the ENI for one LNG cargo each every month, but both suppliers refused to honour their part of the agreements. As a result, the state-owned firm had to call a tender on emergency basis for two LNG cargoes for the months of December and January.

2. Quetta, Zahidan to sign border trade deal today

• A border trade agreement between Pakistan and Iran will be signed on Sunday in the Iranian capital where Adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Trade Abdul Razak Dawood arrived a day ago to participate in the ninth session of the Joint Trade Committee.
• Various issues related to the Pak-Iran border trade agreement were discussed and agreed upon during the ninth joint trade committee session in Tehran.
• The ninth session of the committee would continue on Sunday when the agreement will be signed by the presidents of Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Zahidan Chamber of Commerce and Industry

3. Pakistan, Iran set $5bn trade target by 2023

• Pakistan and Iran have agreed to take measures to expand the annual trade exchanges to $5 billion by the year 2023.
• `Understanding of the new trade target was reached during the ninth meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee held in Tehran,` said a commerce ministry official announcement released on Saturday.
• Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Reza Fatemi Amin said both countries were determined to expand annual trade exchanges

4. Three Discos selected for WB-funded project

• The electricity distribution companies of Peshawar, Multan and Hyderabad have been selected for a project to be financed by the World Bank to improve their operational efficiency and strengthen the capacity of the power sector to implement reforms.
• The cost of the Electricity Distribution Efficiency Improvement project has been estimated at $252.96 million, which included $78.85m for improving grid reliability; $65.63m for modernising operations and management; $54.64m for capacity building and technical assistance $20m for reform support; $19.91m for administration and other costs; $13.94m for financing cost. The government will contribute $19.91m

5. OIC`s special envoy on Kashmir due today

• Special Envoy of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambassador Yousef Aldobeay, will arrive here on Sunday (November 6, 2021) for a six-day visit to Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
• A delegation comprising OIC`s Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Bakhit, and other senior officials will accompany the special envoy.
• During the visit, Mr Aldobeay will hold discussions on peace and security in occupied Kashmir and the human rights and humanitarian situation. `His visit will reinforce the centrality of a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute to lasting peace in South Asia,` the Foreign Office said in a statement on Saturday

• Young Pakistanis are set to play a major role in determining the outcome of the 2023 general polls, the latest age-wise statistics of voters indicate.
• A thorough analysis of the data, released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday, shows that the pro-portion of voters below the age of 35 years is as high as 45.84 per cent, placing them in a position where their active participation has the potential of tilting scales in favour of the candidates of their choice in many constituencies.
• Of the total 121 million voters, 55.57m voters are in the age bracket of 18 to 35 years, whereas their number was slightly above 46m (43.82pc) in the 2018 general elections

8. Those responsible for crimes against civilians in Myanmar will be brought to account: UN

• The head of the UN body investigating the most serious crimes in Myanmar said that preliminary evidence collected since the military seized power on Feb 1 shows a widespread and systematic attack on civilians amounting to crimes against humanity.
• Nicholas Koumjian told UN reporters that the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar, which he heads, has received over 200,000 communications since the army takeover and has collected over 1.5 million items of evidence that are being analysed so that one day those most responsible for the serious international crimes in Myanmar will be brought to account

9. 55pc of Afghan population faces food crisis, warns UN

• The United Nations has warned that nearly 23 million people, or 55 per cent of the Afghan population, are in crisis or will experience emergency levels of food insecurity between now and March of next year.
• Speaking to journalists in New York, Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary General Farhan Haq also pointed out that isolated clashes and violence have continued countrywide this week.
• `Our humanitarian colleagues warn that nearly 23 million people or 55 per cent of the Afghan population are estimated to be in crisis or experiencing emergency levels of food insecurity between November 2021 and March 2022, Mr. Haq said.

10. England, Australia make it to world cup semi-finals

• Rassie van der Dussen smashed an unbeaten 94 as South Africa beat England by 10 runs but failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup on November 6, 2021.
• Group 1 winners England and Australia, who beat West Indies in the first match of the day, made the final four from the six-team pool.
• South Africa posted 189 for two after Van de Dussen smashed six sixes in his 60-ball knock but needed to limit England to 131 or fewer to edge out Australia on net run-rate.
