1. DSP, two SHOs among five cops dead in robbers` attack

• A deputy superintendent of police, two station house officers (SHOs), and two constables were killed while three others received injuries as a result of an attack by at least 150 dacoits on a police camp in the riverine area of Ghotki district in the wee hours of November 6, 2022.
• The riverine area where the incident took place was known as Raunti, where the police had set up a camp after entering the area to recover three hostages who were kidnapped on Oct 30.
• A case was lodged for their recovery at the Ubauro police station on the complaint of Mehar Khan. The hostages included Mohammad Sadiq, son of Rahim Bux Dhandu, 20; Mehrab, son of Mehar Dhandu, 12; and eight-year old Shahbaz Ali, son of Mehar Dhandu


2. PM to shed light on Pakistan`s climate `woes` at COP27

• Two days after the United Nations predicted that Pakistan might become unbearably hot by the end of the century, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Egypt to attend the COP27 conference and highlight threats faced by the country due to the adverse impact of climate change.
• A press release by the Prime Minister Office said Mr Sharif was received at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport by high-level Egyptian officials, Pakistan`s ambassador to Egypt and officials of the embassy.
• Accompanied by members of the federal cabinet and senior officials, PM Sharif would urge the world to deliver on its commitment to support developing nations, including Pakistan, to tackle the impacts of climate change
3. UN climate summit kicks off with warning against `backsliding`
• The UN`s COP27 climate summit kicked off on November 6, 2022 in Egypt with warnings against backsliding on efforts to cut emissions and calls for rich nations to compensate poor countries after a year of extreme weather disasters.
• Just in the past few months, climate induced catastrophes have killed thousands, displaced millions and cost billions in damages across the world.
• Massive floods devastated swaths of Pakistan and Nigeria, droughts worsened in Africa and the western United States, cyclones whipped the Caribbean, and unprecedented heatwaves seared three continents.
• The conference in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh comes in a fraught year marked by Russia`s war onUkraine, an energy crunch, soaring inflation and the lingering effects from the Covid pandemic


4. Punjab IG steps aside over Qureshi`s diatribe

• Punjab police chief Faisal Shahkar refused to work with the current political setup in the province led by Chief Minister Parvez Elahi after PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi passed `hateful and insulting` remarks against him at a rally.
• Faisal Shahkar decided to part ways with the provincial government after an `argument` with CM Elahi in a meeting on Saturday night.
• An official privy to the development said Mr Shahkar took the opportunity to share his grievances with the CM over the `frequent political interference` in the police department and the recent criticism of the PTI top leadership on the police.
• Mr Shahkar said the provincial government was `directly making postings across the province and contacting the RPOs and DPOs to get decisions of [its] choice`


5. Islamabad offers 80 fully-funded scholarships to Damascus

• Pakistan has offered 80 fully-funded scholarships to Syrian undergraduate and graduate students to study in Pakistani universities, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education on November 6, 2022.
• This was conveyed to Syrian authorities by Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain during his recent visit to Syria.
• `During the delegation-level talks at the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain offered 80 fully-funded scholarships (undergraduate and graduate) to Syrian side under various programmes.
