1. PM writes to CJP for judicial commission over Wazirabad attack

• Calling the tense law and order situation following the gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan a `serious threat` to the solidarity of the country, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on November 8, 2022 asked Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to form a judicial commission comprising all available judges to unearth the facts behind the assassination bid on the former premier.
• In his letter to the top judge, PM Sharif said the government would provide complete assistance to the commission to restore public confidence in state institutions and for the sake of finding out the actual factors leading to the gun attack.
• The premier proposed that the commission take into consideration a number of questions while probing the gun attack. These included safety measures for the protection of the long march, claims about the involvement of multiple shooters in the attack, the number of victims, and the nature of their injuries


2. Financing gap `too high` to sustain flood recovery: PM

• Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on November 8, 2022 called the recent noods that ravaged Pakistan a manmade disaster and observed that loss and damage needed to be part of the core agenda of the COP27 conference to meet the pressing humanitarian needs of those trapped in a crisis of public financing fuelled by debt, and yet have to fund climate disasters on their own.
• Delivering the national statement at the World Leaders` Summit of the conference in Sharm el Sheikh, the premier suggested the global goal for adaptation needed to be prioritized, both in terms of financing and timelines.
• `We`re yet to see half and half balance in adaptation and mitigation finance. The current financing gap is too high to sustain any real recovery needs of those on the frontlines of climate catastrophe,` a PM Office press release quoted Sharif as saying


3. SBP cuts limits on travelling cash

• The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has halved the cash-carrying limits on foreign currency for international travel to $5,000 (or equivalent in other foreign currencies) per visit and $30,000 per year for citizens aged 18years or above, it said in a statement on November 8, 2022.
• Both ceilings will be half for under-18s (minors), i.e.
• $2,500 per visit and $15,000 per year.
• However, for people travelling to Afghanistan, the limit for taking out cash foreign currencies will remain unchanged at $1,000 per visit and $6,000 per year


4. Cabinet approved $900m escrow account for Reko Dig in March, SC told

• The federal cabinet approved the creation of a $900 million escrow account for payments to the Chilean firm Antofagasta on March 14, 2022, whereas negotiations to reach a settlement with Barrick Gold Corporation (BCG) for the Reko Diq mining project were finalised on March 17, Additional Attorney General Chaudhry Aamir Rehman told the Supreme Court on November 8, 2022.
• Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, a five-judge Supreme Court bench had taken up on Oct 18 a presidential reference on Reko Diq.
• Earlier, Antofagasta had proposal an amount of $1.75 billion for settlement of the dispute to the extent of their share, of which$700 million had to be paid within 10 days after the settlement of the agreement, whereas $350m each had to be paid in three-year instalments


5. Miscreants torch girls` school in Diamer

• A girls` school was set on fire in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan in the early hours of November 8, 2022 by three unknown miscreants, police officials said.
• The miscreants torched the Girls Middle School, located in Darel valley, and fled the scene, according to an FIR. Photos showed the blaze left the school`s furniture completely burnt and part of its corrugated metal roof also collapsed as a result.
• The Darel valley elders condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the arsonists.
• Hundreds of schoolgirls also poured onto the streets in Astore district and other areas to protest the incident
