1. IMF may unveil steps for revival of package today

• With policy rate increased by 1.5 per cent, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to declare a staff-level agreement with Pakistan on revival of $6 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) which has been `in recess since April.
• Highly placed sources said told Dawn on November 21, 2021 that an IMF `statement [on staff-level agreement] could be released anytime shortly, most probably on Monday`. The statement would envisage `prior actions` that would have to be met before the IMF`s executive board meeting to approve completion of sixth quarterly review of the programme and disbursement of $1bn, sometimes in new calendar year.
• The sources said discussions between the two sides had concluded on Friday. The announcement of policy rate by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) was the last administrative and policy action in the domain of the economic team and stood accomplished. `Everything is agreed to, ready and finished, except legislative part,` the sources said


2. 81 districts have gender gap of over 10pc

• As the number of registered voters climbs to 119 million, as many as 81 of the total 133 districts across the country have a gender gap of over 10 per cent.
• A thorough analysis of the latest data of voters exclusively available with Dawn reveals that all but five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are on the list.
• Twenty-eight out of 34 districts of KP, including capital Peshawar, are on the list of areas with variation between male and female voters exceeding 10pc.


3. Cop martyred in North Waziristan attack

• A police constable was martyred when unknown gunmen attacked his car near Miramshah here on November 21, 2021.
• The police said the martyred constable, Gul Amin, was on way to Miramshah from Mirali when his car came under fire on the main road near Norek village.
• The attackers managed to escape. The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Miramshah.


4. China downgrades diplomatic ties with Lithuania over Taiwan

• China has officially downgraded diplomatic ties with Lithuania, the foreign ministry in Beijing said on November 21, 2021, after Taiwan established a de facto embassy in Vilnius.
• `The Chinese government had to lower diplomatic relations between the two countries… to safeguard its sovereignty and the basic norms of international relations,` the ministry said in a statement announcing the downgrade to the charge d`affaires level. `The Lithuanian government must bear all consequences that arise from this.` It added that Lithuania had `abandoned the political commitment made upon the establishment of diplomatic relations` with China. It was a reference to the `One China` policy, under which countries officially recognise Beijing over Taipei. Lithuania`s foreign ministry on Sunday said it regretted China`s decision.


5. Sri Lanka ends farm chemical ban as organic drive fails

• Sri Lanka abandoned its quest to become the world`s first completely organic farming nation on November 21, 2021, announcing it would immediately lift an import ban on pesticides and other agricultural inputs.
• The island country has been in the grip of a severe economic crisis, with a lack of foreign exchange triggering shortages of food, crude oil and other essential goods.
• Authorities had already walked back restrictions on fertiliser imports last month for tea, the country`s main export earner


6. Allardice made ICC CEO

• The International Cricket Council has appointed Geoff Allardice as its permanent chief executive officer after he served more than eight months in the role on an interim basis.
• Allardice was appointed as interim CEO in March when Manu Sawhney was suspended on the findings of a cultural review. The ICC Board relieved Sawhney in July as Allardice continued to serve as interim CEO


7. Nouman crowned new National Amateur Golf champion

• Nouman Ilyas shot a 71. His closest rival Salman Jahangir matched him. So did defending champion Omar Khalid.
• The lead accumulated by the sedate Nouman over the first three rounds, though, proved insurmountable for the chasing pack.
• Nouman became the new National Amateur Golf Champion here at the PAF Golf Course on Sunday, breaking Omar`s record for being the youngest winner of the event with an aggregate of three-under 285


8. Shaheen fined for throwing ball at Afif

• Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 15 percent of his match fee on November 21, 2021 for throwing a ball at Afif Hossain of Bangladesh during a T20 encounter in Dhaka.
• The incident occurred during the third over of Bangladesh`s innings, when Shaheen fielded the ball on his follow through and threw it at Afif, hitting him on the foot.
• The batsman was within the popping crease and not intending to take a run.
• The International Cricket Council said Shaheen had breached a rule against throwing objects in an inappropriate or dangerous manner


9. India sweep NZ T20 series

• India romped to a 73-run victory over New Zealand in their third and final Twenty20 International in Kolkata on November 21, 2021 as head coach Rahul Dravid began his tenure with a 3-0 series sweep.
• Home captain Rohit Sharma smashed 56 off 31 balls to fire the hosts to a strong 184-7 in the dead rubber at Eden Gardens.
• Martin Guptill made a breezy 51 but New Zealand, runners-up at the recent Twenty20 World Cup, were all out for 111 in the 18th over


10. BD clinch thriller against Pakistan

• Rumana Ahmed scored an unbeaten half-century as Bangladesh defeated their Pakistan counterparts by three wickets in a thrilling ODI match of the ICC Women`s World Cup Qualifier at the Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare on November 21, 2021.
• Chasing a modest 202, Bangladesh lost their first four batters, including Fargana Hoque (45), for 98 by the 36th over. But then Rumana (50 not out) shared a 61-run partnership with Ritu Moni (33).
• Although Bangladesh lost three quick wickets in the space of four balls, Rumana kept her cool and took her side home with Salma Khatun (18 not out).
