6. Malaysian king calls council of sultans to resolve election crisis

• Malaysia`s king on November 23, 2022 called a special meeting of his fellow hereditary sultans to discuss who should be prime minister as an unprecedented post-election crisis entered its fourth day.
• The king is due to pick a new prime minister after the leading contenders opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and former premier Muhyiddin Yassin failed to secure enough support for a majority following a Saturday election that produced an unprecedented hung parliament.
• The uncertainty over the election prolongs political instability in the Southeast Asian country, which has had three prime ministers in as many years, and risks delaying policy decisions needed to foster economic recovery

7. Differently abled McFall among 5 new astronauts named by ESA

• The European Space Agency announced five new career astronauts as well as history`s first astronaut recruit with a disability on November 23, 2022 after adopting a record budget to fund its projects.
• The two female and three male career astronauts `will start working immediately,` ESA director-general Josef Aschbacher told a ministerial council meeting in Paris.
• From more than 22,500 applicants, the agency chose France`s Sophie Adenot, Spain`s Pablo Alvarez Fernandez, Britain`s Rosemary Coogan, Belgium`s Raphael Liegeois and Switzerland`s Marco Sieber.
• They start training next year, with a first mission into orbit not expected until 2026


8. Taliban flog three women, 11 men days after supreme leader`s edict

• Three women and 11 men were flogged on November 23, 2022 on the orders of an Afghan court after they were found guilty of theft and `moral crimes`, a provincial official said.
• The lashings are the first to be confirmed since the Taliban`s supreme leader ordered judges this month to fully enforce Islamic law, or sharia, saying corporal punishment was obligatory for certain crimes.
• Qazi Rafiullah Samim, head of information and culture for Logar province, said the lashings were not administered publicly

9. Dutch court rules 2007 Afghan air strike `unlawful`

• A deadly Dutch air strike on a civilian compound in Afghanistan in 2007 was unlawful, a court in the Netherlands ruled on November 23, 2022, ordering the country to compensate the victims` families.
• Four Afghans, who were not named in court papers, took the Dutch state to court over the incident during fighting between international forces and the Taliban in Uruzgan province incentral Afghanistan.
• Dutch F-16 fighter jets in the early hours of June 17, 2007, dropped 28guided bombs in the area, of which 18 landed on walled compounds, called `galas` near the strategic town of Chora, the court said
