6. Putin`s nuclear threat brings world closer to `Armageddon`, says Biden

• Russian President Vladimir Putin`s threat to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine has brought the world closer to `Armageddon` than at any time since the Cold-War Cuban Missile Crisis, US President Joe Biden said.

• The honour went to detained activist Ales Bialiatski of Belarus, Russian rights group Memorial and Ukraine`s Center for Civil Liberties, which is recording the toll of the conflict on the nation.
• `They have made an outstanding effort to document war crimes, human right abuses and the abuse of power,` the head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, told reporters


8. Scientists plan to grow plants on Moon

• Australian scientists are trying to grow plants on the Moon by 2025 in a mission unveiled on October 7, 2022 that they said could help pave the way for a future colony.
• Plant biologist Brett Williams, from the Queensland University of Technology, said seeds would be carried by the Beresheet 2 spacecraft a private Israeli Moon mission.
• They would be watered inside the sealed chamber after landing and monitored for signs of germination and growth

• It was the opening match of a week-long tournament, which also includes hosts New Zealand. All three teams are using it to prepare for the T20 World Cup in Australia

• Veteran Nida Dar`s impressive all-round show backed by a three-wicket burst from Nashra Sandhu helped Pakistan shock arch-rivals India by 13 runs in the Women`s Asia Cup T20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on October 7, 2022.
• India batted poorly to be dismissed for 124 in 19.4 overs after Pakistan totaled a modest 137 for six off the stipulated overs on winning the toss.
• At 65 for five, India were in all sorts of trouble with majority of the batters including star player Smriti Mandhana (17 off 19) throwing their wickets away
