1. 20 security personnel martyred in two attacks

• Twenty security personnel, including six Army men, were martyred in two terrorist attacks in Balochistan`s Ormara area and North Waziristan tribal district on October 15, 2020 and late Wednesday.
• Fourteen security men seven personnel of the Frontier Corps and as many civilian guards employed by the OGDCL were martyred in an armed attack on their convoy on the Coastal Highway in the Ormara area of Gwadar district on Thursday.
• Six troops, including a Pakistan Army captain, were martyred and one suffered injuries when two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) struck their vehicles in North Waziristan tribal district on Wednesday evening


2. Alvi awards Nishan-i-Imtiaz to naval chief

• President Dr Arif Alvi on October 15, 2020 conferred Nishan-i-Imtiaz upon Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhamm ad Amjad Khan Niazi during a ceremony held at Aiwan-i-Sadr.
• The military award was conferred upon the naval chief in recognition of his performance and selfless devotion towards maritime defence of the country


3. $1,150m accord signed with WB for two KP power projects

• Prime Minister Imran Khan on October 15, 2020 said Pakistan valued its partnership with the World Bank and the government would continue it aimed at the socioeconomic uplift of people.
• The prime minister stated this while witnessing the signing of two financing agreements worth $1,150 million with the World Bank.
• The KP Hydropower and Renewable Energy Development Project of $450m aims to increase renewable energy generation and strengthen the capacity of associated institutions in the province.


4. India approaches IHC for spies` release on jail terms completion

• The Indian High Commission on October 15, 2020 filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking release of those Indian citizens who had been convicted by Pakistan`s military courts of spying and had since complete d their respective prison terms.
• Aparna Ray of the Indian High Commission filed the petition in the IHC through advocate Malik Shahnawz Noon.


5. Italy starts issuing work visa for Pakistanis

• The Italian government has reopened seasonal and non-seasonal work visas for Pakistani nationals under its annual schedule of work visa called `Decreto Flussi` for the year 2020-21.
• Over 30,000 work visas would be issued by the Italian government to the nationals from a few non-EU countries, including Pakistan. Pakistani workers in agriculture, tourism, construction and freight forwarding sectors can avail this opportunity, according to details transmitted by the Pakistan Embassy in Italy to the Board of Investment on October 15, 2020


6. Europe enforces new rules as it sets virus records

• Fears rose on October 15, 2020 that Europe is running out of time to control a resurgence of the coronavirus, as infections hit record daily highs in Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and Poland.
• France slapped a 9pm curfew on many of its biggest cities and Londoners f aced fresh travel restrictions as governments imposed increasingly tough measures.


7. Talks with China are confidential, says India

• India and China are engaged in talks to resolve the border standoff and what is going on is `something confidential` between the two sides, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on October 15, 2020.
• The Press Trust of India said the minister was asked specifically about the outcome of the ongoing talks during an online conclave. Mr. Jaishankar replied that the `discussions are going on and it is a work in progress`


8. Kyrgyz president quits; PM takes over country

• Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov resigned on October 15, 2020, leaving power in the hands of a nationalist rival whose supporters freed him from jail last week.
• The swift transition appears to put an end to more than a week of turmoil and unrest that followed a di sputed election.
• Sadyr Japarov, 51, who was named prime minister this week, told cheering supporters that he had taken on the powers of the presidency, following the resignation of Jeenbekov and of the parliament speaker, who would otherwise have been next in line


9. Taliban have agreed to reduce Afghan casualties: US envoy

• The Taliban have promised US forces to reduce casualties in Afghanistan after a wave of violence raised questions about peace talks, a US envoy said on October 15, 2020.
• `At present too many Afghans are dying. With the re-set, we expect that number to drop significantly,` Zalmay Khalilzad, who negotiated a February 29 deal with the Taliban to pull out US forces from the war-torn country, wrote on Twitter


10. Five sentenced to death in Bangladesh for gang-rape

• A Bangladesh court sentenced five men to death on October 15, 2020 for the 2012 gang-rape of a 15-yearold girl, amid growing public anger over rampant sexual violence.
• The sentence was handed down in the northern district of Tangail by a special tribunal set up to deal with cases of abuse against women and children.
• Prosecutor Nasim Ahmed said the victim`s boyfriend took her to a riverside where she was raped by him and two friends. Two others helped them
