6. US military test launches ICBM

• The US military tested an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on September 7, 2022, the second in less than a month after a previous launch was delayed twice.
• Washington announced the test in advance, an unusual move apparently aimed at heading off an escalation of tensions with Russia that are already heightened due to Moscow`s invasion of Ukraine.
• `Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with three test reentry vehicles` early on September 7 from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, the US Air Force said in a statement.
• In a conflict, the re-entry vehicles would be armed with nuclear warheads

• Albania broke diplomatic ties with Iran on September 7, 2022 over an alleged cyberattack against the government this summer, as Washington vowed to hold Tehran accountable for targeting its Nato ally.
• Albania and Iran have been bitter foes for years, stemming from Tirana`s hosting of the Iranian opposition group the People`s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK) on its soil.
• Prime Minister Edi Rama on Wednesday accused Iran of directing a cyberattack against Albanian institutions on July 15 in a bid to `paralyse public services and hack data and electronic communications from the government systems`.
• It was the first time Tirana spoke about the alleged attack, and Rama said his country cut ties with Iran over it

• Syria`s foreign ministry said on September 7, 2022 it considered the air strikes on civilian infrastructure to be a `war crime`, a day after Israeli strikes hit Aleppo airport for the second time in a week.
• A foreign ministry statement specifically referred to Israeli air raids on Tuesday on the airport that damaged the runway and put the site out of service.
• `The recurring Israeli attacks, especially the systematic and deliberate targeting of civilian objects in Syria the latest of which was the targeting of Aleppo International Airport yesterday amounts to a crime of aggression and a war crime according to international law,` the statement said.
• `Israel must be held to account for it,` it added


9. Ancient skeleton reveals amputation surgery 31,000 years ago

• A skeleton discovered in a remote corner of Borneo rewrites the history of ancient medicine and proves amputation surgery was successfully carried out about 31,000 years ago, scientists said on September 7, 2022.
• Previously, the earliest known amputation involved a 7,000-year-old skeleton found in France, and experts believed such operations only emerged in settled agricultural societies.
• The finding also suggests that Stone Age hunter-gatherers living in what is now Indonesia`s East Kalimantan province had sophisticated medical knowledge of anatomy and wound treatment

• Tailender Naseem Shah hit two last over sixes as Pakistan pulled off a thrilling one-wicket win over Afghanistan on September 7, 2022 to set up an Asia Cup Final against Sri Lanka, knocking out rivals India in the process.
• Chasing 130 for victory, Pakistan were in deep trouble at 118-9 when number 10 Naseem muscled two hits over the fence off Fazalhaq Farooqi to win with four balls to spare in Sharjah and end India and Afghanistan`s hopes of making the final.
• The Afghans appeared set for victory when Farooqi, who had figures of 3-19 from his first three overs, saw two full tosses at the start of the final over dispatched over long-off
