6. Israeli strikes wound three civilians in Syria

• Three civilians were wounded on Saturday in Israeli air strikes near the Syrian city of Homs, state media reported, with a war monitor saying a Hezbollah munitions depot was hit.
• During more than a decade of war in Syria, Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes on its territory, primarily targeting Iran backed forces and Hezbollah fighters as well as Syrian army positions.
• While Israel rarely comments on the strikes it carries out on Syria, it has repeatedly said it will not allow its arch-foe Iran to extend its footprint in the war-torn country


7. Poland seizes Russian high school building in Warsaw

• Poland on April 29, 2023 said it had seized a high school building near Moscow`s embassy in Warsaw meant for the children of diplomats, a move the Russian envoy called `illegal`.
• The spat over the 1970s multi-storey building has been going on for a year.
• `This building belongs to the Warsaw City Hall,` Polish foreign ministry spokesman Lukasz Jasina said, adding that the move followed a bailiff`s order


8. China to allow fertility treatment for single women to stem population fall

• China is mulling to allow single women access to invitro fertility (IVF) treatment legally in a private clinic as it tries to slow its demographic decline.
• The changes mean unmarried women can take paid maternity leave and receive child subsidies previously only available to married couples. This has benefited women like Chen Luojin, a 33-year-old divorcee living in Chengdu, the capital of the southwestern Sichuan province, which legalised registration of children by unmarried women in February, something China is considering implementing nationwide to address record low birth rates.

9. Sculpture of euthanised walrus unveiled in Oslo

• A bronze sculpture was unveiled on April 29, 2023 in Norway of the walrus Freya who gained global attention last summer after playfully basking in the Oslo fjord until officials euthanised her.
• The life-size sculpture depicts Freya lying on her side on the rocky shore of Oslo`s Kongen Marina, not far from where the real 600-kilogram (1,3OO-pound) mammal last summer drew large crowds chasing ducks and swans and sunbathing on boats struggling to support her bulk.
• Officials chose to put her down in August, citing signs she was experiencing stress and amid fears she posed a threat to the public who did not keep their distance as requested. The decision sparked anger among some

• It was Fakhar`s third ODI century in a row, and came after his 117 in the series opener on Thursday. He also scored a century against New Zealand in the last game of the previous series between the two sides earlier this year
