6. 23 injured as 5.4-magnitude quake hits China
• At least 23 people were injured and dozens of buildings collapsed, state media reported, after a shallow 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck eastern China in the early hours of August 6, 2023.
• The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 2:33am, 26 kilometres south of the city of Dezhou in Shandong province, at a depth of 10 kilometres. It was the strongest to hit the province in more than a decade, state-run tabloid the Global Times said
7. China says Philippines boats `illegally` entered its waters
• China said on August 06, 2023 it had taken `necessary controls` against Philippines boats that had `illegally` entered its waters, after Manila accused Beijing`s coast guard of firing water cannon at its vessels in the disputed South China sea.
• `Two repair ships and two coast guard ships from the Philippines illegally broke into the waters… in China`s Nansha Islands,` China Coast Guard spokesperson Gan Yu said, adding that Beijing had `implemented necessary controls in accordance with the law andstopped Philippine ships carrying illegal building materials`
8. Maldives ex-president barred from election
• The highest court in the Maldives ruled on August 6, 2023 that jailed former leader Abdulla Yameen cannot be a candidate at next month`s presidential election.
• Yameen, 64, is serving an 11-year jail sentence after being convicted last December on corruption and money-laundering charges while being the president of the Indian Ocean archipelago nation
9. Ukraine faces overnight attacks, strikes bridges in occupied areas
• Russia carried out several waves of attacks on Ukraine overnight, while Kyiv hit bridges in occupied territories on August 6, 2023.
• The Ukrainian air force said on Sunday that it shot down 30 out of the 40 cruise missiles and all Shahed drones launched by Russia.
• `In total, the enemy used 70 air attack weapons in several waves` in the night from Saturday to Sunday

10. Pakistan to play in India amid `security concerns`
• The government has decided to send the Pakistan cricket team to India to play in this year`s 50-over World Cup, the Foreign Office said on August 6 but expressed `deep concerns` over security.
• `Pakistan has deep concerns about the security of its cricket team. We are conveying these concerns to the International Crieket Council and the Indian authorities,` the Foreign Office said in a statement.
• `We expect that the full safety and security of the Pakistan Cricket Team will be ensured during its visit to India,` it said.
