1. Kakar sworn in as caretaker prime minister amid allies` grumblings

After he took oath as the eighth interim prime minister of Pakistan on Monday, Anwaarul Haq Kakar will start consultations for the formation of the caretaker cabinet today, even as former ruling coalition members, particularly PML-N, expressed reservations over his `surprise` selection to lead the interim set-up.
The appointment of the former senator, who founded the Balochistan Awami Party, came as a surprise for many in the outgoing coalition government after his name was announced by former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and NA Opposition Leader Raja Riaz following protracted consultations


2. Sindh picks interim CM, Balochistan undecided

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Provincial Assembly Opposition Leader Rana Ansar on Monday agreed to appoint retired Sindh High Court chief justice Maqbool Bagar as the caretaker chief minister, minutes before the deadline ended.
On the other hand, there was no sign of consensus in Balochistan on the appointment of interim CM, as a crucial meeting between the outgoing chief minister, Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, and the opposition leader could not materialise on Monday

3. World powers pledge to help Pakistan fight terror, boost economy

China and the US on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen ties with Pakistan and resolved to support the country in efforts to revive the economy and root out terrorism.
`No matter how the international landscape and the domestic situation in Pakistan may change, the ironclad friendship between China and Pakistan will always remain rock-firm and unbreakable,` APP reported while quoting Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin.
`China stands ready to work with Pakistan to advance our all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, build an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era and bring more benefits to the two countries and two peoples


4. Project for country`s tallest flagpole launched at Liberty Chowk

The groundbreaking ceremony of the country`s tallest flagpole was held at the Liberty Chowk on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said it would be the tallest flagpole where the national flag would be hoisted.
Talking to the reporters, he said funds for the project would come from the private sector.
To a question, he said rallies on the Independence Day were allowed only with national flag.
The 500 feet tall flagpole at Liberty Roundabout may cost the government around Rs400m. After the soil test, the height of the pole might be increased to up to 672 ft


5. First international flight lands at Skardu

A Pakistan International Airlines flight, with 79 people on board, landed at the Skardu airport on Monday, making it the first-ever international flight to touch down at the airport.
PIA`s flight PK234 from Dubai landed at 8:33am after taking off at 4:15am (Dubai time). The aircraft was presented with a traditional water cannon salute as the captain hoisted national flags from cockpit windows while approaching the terminal
