1. Alvi sacrifices rook `in bid to clear his name`
The controversy surrounding the passage of amendments to the Official Secrets Act and Pakistan Army Act refused to die down on Monday, as President Arif Alvi sent his secretary Waqar Ahmed packing back to the Establishment Division, whereas the latter called his removal from the post `not based on justice`.
The removal of the president`s secretary just a day after Mr Alvi accused his subordinates of undermining his command is being seen as a punishment for his alleged impudence, but there was no direct reference to the former secretary`s involvement in the episode.
2. PIA grounds 11 aircraft; three deemed beyond repair
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has grounded 11 aircraft, including three of its Boeing 777s, as the national flag carrier faces a serious financial crisis due to the uncontrolled flight of dollars and increase in prices of petroleum products.
According to sources, the airline, which operates around 30 aircraft, has been facing serious difficulties in procuring spare parts for the past three years due to scarcity of funds, which has resulted in the grounding of 11 planes
3. One life lost in AJK as India violates ceasefire
In yet another `unprovoked` ceasefire violation within two months, Indian troops martyred a villager in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday morning while he was working in his field along the Line of Control (LoC).
`At about 8am today, Ghayas Deen, son of Saif Ali, aged 62 years, who was cutting grass near the LoC, was shot and martyred by the Indian army, said Riaz Mughal, a police official in Kotli district
4. Five ministers inducted into Balochistan cabinet
Balochistan`s caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki inducted five ministers into his cabinet on Monday.
They include a retired army officer, an educationist, and a former minister.
Governor Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar administered oath to the five ministers.
The five are: retired Captain Zubair Jamali, Amjad Rasheed, Jan Achakzai, Dr Qadir Bakhsh Baloch and Prince Ahmed Ali Ahmedzai
5. Punjab Skills Policy draft approved
The Punjab Industry and Commerce Department Committee on Monday approved the `Punjab Skills Policy of 2023` draft for enhancing the skills and employability of the workforce of the province.
Provincial Minister of Industry and Commerce SM Tanveer chaired the meeting to review and include recommendations held at the Tevta Secretariat.
This committee has approved the draft of the inaugural `Punjab Skills Policy 2023.` The next step involves a thorough legal review by the Law Department, after which the policy will be presented to the Punjab cabinet for final approval
