1. Over 40 killed as blast rocks JUI-F convention in Bajaur

• At least 42 people were killed and over 150 others injured in Khar, a tehsil of Bajaur, after a powerful explosion ripped through a political gathering organised by the Jamiat Ulema-iIslam-Fazl on Sunday.
• According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of party workers along with local leaders were present at the gathering when the blast occurred.
• The bomb went off when a party leader was addressing the convention. JUI-F officials told Dawn that the party`s Khar General Secretary Ziaullah, JUI-F District Press Secretary Mujahid Khan and his son were among the dead


2. PCAA says airspace `safe after EU agency`s warning

• The country`s airspace is `safe` for all kinds of flight operations, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) said on Sunday, days after a European air safety agency warned airlines of `high risk` while flying at low altitudes in Karachi and Lahore.
• The Aircraft Owners and Operators Association of Pakistan (AOOA) also disputed the safety warning, insisting that Pakistan`s airspace is safe and protected against intrusions

3. Bill on violent extremism dropped after stiff opposition

• Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on July 30, 2023 had to drop a bill aimed at curbing violent extremism after fierce opposition from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
• The proposed law, titled `The Prevention of Violent Extremism Bill 2023`, said that those calling on others to show or use force, propagating and publishing extremist material, using all kinds of media for radicalisation or manipulating people`s beliefs, or provoking sectarian strife would be guilty of violent extremism.
• However, several senators pointed out that the bill was PTI-specific, was being passed without following the due procedure and would target all political parties


4. Chinese vice premier arrives amid extraordinary security

• Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng landed here on July 30, 2023 amid extraordinary security arrangements as over 2,700 security personnel are being deployed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for the visit.
• Mr He, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, arrived on a two-day visit as the Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping at the invitation of the government of Pakistan to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), APP reported


5. Bilawal unveils Benazir`s wax statue in Dubai

• Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on July 30, 2023 unveiled the wax figure of Benazir Bhutto at Madame Tussauds in Dubai.
• The minister who arrived in the UAE on a one-day official visit attended a ceremony to unveil the statue, APP reported.
• According to Gulf News, the wax figure of Ms Bhutto was the first of a Pakistani personality at the museum`s Dubai location. It features her in a green shalwar kameez and white dupatta, the outfit she wore when she was sworn in as the first woman prime minister of Pakistan on December 2, 1988
