6. Russia fails to supply arms to India because of war

• Russia is unable to deliver vital defence supplies it had committed to India`s military because of the war in Ukraine, the Indian Air Force (IAF) says.
• New Delhi has been worried that Moscow`s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 could affect military supplies from India`s largest source of defence equipment.
• The IAF statement is the first official confirmation of such shortfalls.
• The IAF statement was made to a parliamentary committee, which published it on its website on Tuesday. An IAF representative told the panel Russia had planned a `major delivery` this year that will not take place


7. Any attempt to arrest Putin would be declaration of war, says ally

• Any attempt to arrest President Vladimir Putin after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for the Kremlin chief would amount to a declaration of war against Russia, his ally Dmitry Medvedev said on March 23, 2023.
• The ICC issued an arrest warrant on Friday, accusing Putin of the war crime of illegally deporting hundreds of children from Ukraine.
• It said there are reasonable grounds to believe that Putin bears individual criminal responsibility.
• Former President Dmitry Medvedev told Russian media that the ICC, which countries including Russia, China and the United States do not recognise, was a `legal nonentity` that had never done anything significant. Any attempt to detain Putin, though, would be a declaration of war, said Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of Putin`s powerful security council


8. Huge river restoration effort launched at UN water summit

• Several African and Latin American countries on March 23, 2023 launched a major initiative to restore 300,000 kilometers of rivers by 2030, as well as lakes and wetlands degraded by human activity.
• The `Freshwater Challenge,` led by a coalition of governments that includes Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico and Gabon, is the largest river and wetland restoration project in history.
• It aims to restore degraded rivers as long as seven times the Earth`s circumference and an area of wetlands larger than India by 2030, according to a statement from the UN Water Conference that ends Friday in New York City


9. Saudi, Iranian FMs to meet to reopen embassies

• Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian have agreed to meet soon and pave the way for the reopening of embassies under a deal to reestablish ties, Saudi state news agency SPA said on March 24, 2023.
• Earlier this month, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to revive relations after years of hostility that had threatened stability and security in the Gulf and helped fuel conflicts in the Middle East from Yemen to Syria.
• The ministers spoke by phone to mark the occasion of the Muslim holy month of Ramazan, SPA said. Amirabdollahian emphasised during the call Iran`s readiness to strengthen relations with Saudi Arabia, Iran`s official news agency IRNA reported

• TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew faced relentless questioning from combative US lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle on March 23, 2023 over the video-sharing app`s alleged ties to China and its danger to teens.
• The 40-year-old Singaporean suf-fered unusually intense grilling by both Republicans and Democrats who fear that Beijing could subvert the site for spying, data harvesting and to secretly defend a Chinese Communist Party agenda.
• The Harvard-educated former banker failed over several grueling hours to defuse an existential threat to TikTok as the app seeks to survive a White House ultimatum that it either split from its Chinese ownership or get banned in the United States
