1. Citizens to be counted where they live, says PBS official

• With over 60 percent of the job done in Sindh, an official from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) made it clear on March 25, 2023 that `persons will be counted in the area or city where they live and whose resources they use, regardless of [the place] where their identity card is based`.
• Teams carrying out the first-ever digital census has so far counted over 31 million people in the province, of which 8.5m are living in Karachi alone.
• The fresh numbers were shared by Chief Census Commissioner Dr Naeemuz Zafar during an interaction with media on Saturday.
• Mr Zafar clarified a `few myths` about the gigantic task going on simultaneously across the country. Though he would not share any specifics, he did say that PBS had faced some hurdles in the initial days of the exercise when it was launched more than a month ago


2. WHO to rebuild 100 health centres

• The World Health Organisation (WHO) will rehabilitate 100 primary healthcare centers in 12 districts of Balochistan badly damaged in last year`s monsoon rains and heavy flood and provide them the required medical equipment and solar systems.
• The provincial health department and WHO signed six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in this regard at a ceremony held on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by WHO country head DrPalitha Mahipala, Health Minister Syed Ehsan Shah and Health Secretary Muhammad Saleh Nasar.
• Under the MoUs, WHO will rehabilitate100 primary healthcare centres in 12 districts and provide medical equipment, furniture and solar systems. Under the agreement, the provincial health department will ensure continuity of health services through human resources and ensure supplies from the health system.

3. ADB proposes `roadmap` to make Peshawar eco-friendly

• The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has carried out a study that led to the preparation of a `Climate Investment Roadmap` for Peshawar to address the effects of climate change surrounding the city.
• The roadmap has been developed under the technical assistance programme of ADB, aimed at supporting Asian cities in their efforts to ensure an eco-friendly atmosphere.
• The Peshawar roadmap has a strategic focus on Green House Gas (GHG) reduction and resilience featuring measures that would improve the quality of life for those residing and would also enhance the attraction of Peshawar including historical places, according to the document made public by the ADB


4. Recognition for British Pakistani diplomat

• British-Pakistani diplomat Fouzia Younis this week became the first British Muslim to be appointed His Majesty`s British Consul General to Toronto, marking the end of her Pakistan posting as a senior diplomat at the British High Commission.
• Ms Younis, a British Pakistani whose family moved to the UK in the late 70s, shared the news on Twitter with an acknowledgment of her parents` sacrifice and dedication.

5. Former minister Sardar Idrees passes away

• Former provincial minister and senior politician from Galiyat Sardar Mohammad Idrees passed away here on March 25, 2023 due to heart failure, his family said.
• His funeral prayers were held on the grounds of the Government Postgraduate College, Abbottabad, in the evening. Later, his body was moved to his native Tajwal village. His funeral was largely attended by people from different walk of life.
• Meanwhile, Abbottabad deputy commissioner Khalid Iqbal inaugurated a mini zoo at Shimla Hill Park the other day. The zoo has been set up by the wildlife department with the help of the tehsil municipal administration
