6. Monks at historic Kyiv monastery defy eviction order

• In a Kyiv monastery that has played a crucial role in both Ukrainian and Russian history, scores of monks accused of allegiance with Moscow are defying eviction.
• The government has said they must leave the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra by Wednesday but the monks say the order has no basis and plan to stay `as long as physically possible`.
• `There is no legal foundation` for the expulsion, Archbishop Kliment, a spokesman for the church, said in the monastery


7. Russia to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus

• Russia has struck a deal with neighbouring Belarus to station tactical nuclear weapons on its territory, Tass news agency quoted President Vladimir Putinas saying on March 25, 2023.
• Such a move would not violate nuclear nonproliferation agreements, Putin said, adding that the United States had stationed nuclear weapons on the territory of European allies.
• Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has long raised the issue of stationing tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, which borders Poland, Putin said


8. Judge Nadia Kahf takes oath on Quran, wearing hijab

• Nadia Kahf made history when she took oath in New Jersey this week as the first judge to do so while wearing a hijab. And she took oath by pressing her hand on a copy of the Holy Quran she inherited from her grandmother.
• `I`m overwhelmed and very happy and very honored as well,` Judge Kahf, 50, said in an interview to the North Jersey news outlet. `I`m happy the bench is going to reflect (all) residents of New Jersey.
• Ms Kahf specialises in family law and has worked on immigration cases too.
• Since 2003, she has served on the board of the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights organisation.


9. Canada, US amend decades-old pact after surge in irregular asylum seekers

• Canada and the United States on Friday changed a two-decade old refugee agreement as part of their attempts to reduce the record influx of asylum seekers entering Canada via unofficial border crossings.
• The deal was the news highlight of US President Joe Biden`s first visit to Canada as president and could provide some relief to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is under pressure from political opponents to take action.
• The Safe Third Country Agreement, signed in 2002 and which came into effect in 2004, originally meant asylum seekers crossing into either Canada or the United States at formal border crossings were turned back and told to apply for asylum in the first `safe` country they arrived in.


10. Three more Indian missiles `misfire` during exercises

• The Indian Army`s three surface-to-air missiles were `misfired` during a firing exercise in Rajasthan`s Jaisalmer area, causing alarm in the surrounding areas, according to Indian media reports.
• The incident puts a question mark on the safety mechanism in place, as over a year ago India `accidentally` fired a missile into Pakistan.
• This time the three missiles were misfired due to a `technical glitch,` India Today reported.
