1. Exodus underway as time almost up for `illegal aliens`

The deadline for foreigners staying in Pakistan illegally is set to expire at the end of the day, but despite the government`s claims that preparations are in place for rounding up and deporting all unregistered aliens Afghans or otherwise officials familiar with the process foresee a lot of logistical and political hurdles.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja held a meeting with caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his cabinet members on Monday to discuss measures for ensuring `free and fair` elections


3. Punjab cabinet approves Rs2.08tr `surplus` budget for four months

The Punjab caretaker cabinet on Monday approved a `surplus` budget of Rs2,076 billion (Rs2.076tr) for next four months-November to February 2024.
The meeting presided over by caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi approved the four-month budget amounting to Rs2,076.2bn, including a development expenditure of Rs351bn.
During the meeting, an allocation of Rs50bn was made to provide relief to the people of the province

4. Israeli tanks pull back after encountering resistance

Israeli forces on Monday attacked Gaza`s main northern city, coming from two sides, as part of a major ground offensive initiated three days earlier. Inside Gaza, the Israeli ground forces fought deadly battles with Hamas fighters.

Chinese and Russian military chiefs targeted the United States for criticism at a security forum in Beijing on Monday, even as China`s second most senior military commander vowed to boost defence ties with Washington.
The lack of regular communications between the US and Chinese militaries has been a worry for Washington as tensions rise over various issues and given the risks of an accidental clash in the South China Sea or near Taiwan
