1. Free electricity quotas merely tip of iceberg

The total cost of free electricity units being used by the state-owned entities in the country`s power sector alone ranges between Rs22 billion and Rs25bn per annum whereas the allowances being given to other government departments` employees from grade 1 to 22 are also worth billions, leaving the government with no option but to pass on such a huge financial impact to consumers.
However, highly-placed sources don`t see this impact as a big one compared to huge capacity payments, which have now reached Rs2 trillion and are liable to be paid to the independent power producers (IPPs) by the end of this year

Pakistani institutions need to work through the electoral process in consultation with the political parties to ensure fair and free elections, said Elizabeth Horst, the lead US diplomat for South and Central Asian affairs.
`We feel very strongly that Pakistan`s future leadership is for the Pakistani people to decide, that the Pakistani people deserve their day at the polls. Pakistani institutions need to work through that process in consultation with the political parties,` she said

3. Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan is no more

A man of principles, retired Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan died of cardiac arrest at the age ofaround770nSunday.
The deceased`s son, Barrister Qasim Ali Chohan, told Dawn that his father was in good health. On Sunday morning, he suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence at Rawal Road Chaklala and was taken to Shifa International Hospital but could not survive


4. Levies official, two others shot dead in Mastung, Kalat

A member of Levies Force and two other people were shot dead in two different firing incidents in Mastung and Kalat districts on Sunday.
Officials said that some unknown assailants barged into the house of a Levies official in the Johan area of Mangochar town of Kalat district and opened fire, killing him on the spot and injuring his wife


5. Pink toilets set up for women travellers

Bahawalpur Commissioner Dr Ehtesham Anwar Mahar says good quality toilets have been established for women along the major highways in the Bahawalpur division.
Talking to Dawn on Sunday, the commissioner said the facility had been made available at select fuel stations and in the first phase, five, six and 10 sites have been selected in Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur districts, respectively
