1. Senate panel summons Nepra chairman, members

In a rare move and without prior notice, the Senate Standing Committee on Power served a summons on the chairman and members of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to appear before the panel after they skipped a meeting on Thursday.
`The committee expressed displeasure over the absence of chairman Nepra and its members and decided to issue a summons for chairman Nepra and all its members to attend the next meeting,` the committee said in a written statement following discussions in the meeting


2. US urges Pakistan to move forward with poll process `as per law`

While stressing the need for timely elections, the US has urged the Pakistan government to take the electoral process forward as per the law.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, the State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller was asked about President Arif Alvi`s letter proposing Nov 6 as election day and whether this move would lead to another constitutional crisis in the country.
In reply, Mr Miller said as it did with other countries, the US urged Pakistan `to hold a free and fair and timely elections` and respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and the rule of law


3. Chinese firm to establish EV plant in Pakistan

A Chinese electric car manufacturing company has announced establishing an electric vehicle (EV) plant in Pakistan and chain of showrooms in major cities of the country.
This announcement was made by a delegation of XinjianJingyi Cheng Group, led by its assistant chairman GU Xongquan, during a meeting with FPCCI Vice President Amin Ullah Baig here on Thursday.
Mr Baig, who is also chairman of the FPCCI Capital Office, held an extensive discussion with the Chinese firm`s team on the investment landscape of Pakistan

4. Torkham closer to reopening as officials `reach understanding`

With senior officials of Pakistan and Afghanistan reaching an understanding during their protracted parleys during the last week of Torkham border closure, positive signs emerged on late Thursday about the possible reopening of the border on Friday morning.

5. 333m kids still live in poverty, says global study

A new Unicef-World Bank analysis estimates that one in six children globally (around 333 million) live in extreme poverty, and warns that at current rates of reduction, the Sustainable Development Goal of ending extreme child poverty by 2030 will not be met.
The Global Trends in Child Monetary Poverty According to International Poverty Lines which for the first time looks at trends in extreme child poverty, finds that while the number of children living on less than $2.15 a day decreased from 383m to 333m between 2013 and 2022, the economic impact of Covid-19 led to three lost years of progress
