The International Labour Organisation (ILO) says Pakistan`s labour market has yet to recover fully from the Covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis, and the number of persons unemployed is projected to reach 5.6 million this year, an increase of 1.5m since 2021.
This estimate matches the IMF`s projected unemployment rate of 8.5 per cent in 2023, up from 6.2pc in 2021, the ILO said in its employment outlook report on Pakistan released on Thursday. The report also highlights that the female unemployment rate, which is historically at least 1.5 times that of male rates, could reach a high of 11.1pc

7. US diplomat terms TTP `greatest threat` to regional stability
A senior US diplomat has identified the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as the greatest threat to regional stability.
Addressing a seminar at the Stimson Center on Tuesday, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Tom West, however, admitted that the Taliban rulers had `significantly degraded` the capabilities of the militant Islamic State (IS) group.

8. Seven killed in held Kashmir gun battles
Five Indian officers and two fighters were killed in separate gun battles this week in held Kashmir, with clashes ongoing, officials in the occupied region said on Thursday.
On Wednesday, two Indian army officers and a senior policeman carrying out a security sweep in a forested area of the southern Kashmir valley were ambushed and killed, with the two suspected gunmen holed up and firing at soldiers encircling their position.
Kashmir police said their force had surrounded two men they said belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba group
