  1. America suspends entire security aid to Pakistan
    • The Trump administration announcedon January 4, 2018 it is suspending its entire security assistance to Pakistan until it proves its commitment to fight all terrorist groups operating in the region.
    • The cut-off is not permanent and only affects military assistance
    • Under the new approach, funds would be allocated to a particular purpose identified with the allocation and would be released only after that targetis achieved
  2. Jadhav slams Indian diplomat`s treatment of his wife, mother
    • Sparring between Pakistan and India over convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav continued on January 4, 2018 as the Foreign Office released a video message in which Jadhav accused Indian authorities of intimidating his mother and wife during their trip to Islamabad
    • In his video message, Jadhav thanked both Islamabad and New Delhi for working together to make the meeting happen, but noted that he was saddened to see his mother under duress. `My mother was under shock,he said while sharing his impressions from the nearly 40 minutes he spent with his family in the first meeting since being seized in Balochistan in March 2016
  3. Pakistan, Iran ministers discuss unrest in region
    • Pakistani and Iranian defence ministers on January 4, 2018 agreed to hold `frequent discussions` over the evolving situation in the region
    • The consensus was reached during a telephonic conversation between Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan and his Iranian counterpart Brig Gen Amir Hatami
  4. With 8000 CCTV cameras installed Lahore as “Safe City” Project inaugurated
    • Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif innaugrates the Safe City Project (Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre) on January 4, 2018

  5. Pakistan, Japan pledge to reinvigorate ties
    • This was the upshot of Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono`s two-day visit to Pakistan during which he called on Prime Shahid Khagan Abbasi, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa

  6. Qatar allows full ownership for foreign investors
    • Qatar has approved legislation allowing 100 per cent ownership for foreign investors in most sectors of the economy in a bid to boost nonenergy revenues
    • The move comes at a time of political crisis in the Gulf, with Qatar under an economic and diplomatic boycott by neighbouring countries for the past seven months
    • It is also an attempt by Qatar, the third largest economy in the Gulf, to secure new revenues to finance a budget deficit due to the slump in oil prices since mid-2014
