1. Civil-military brass won`t `react in haste` to Trump tweet
   • National Security Committee, Corps Commanders meetings discuss regional, global strategy
   • Rejecting US President Donald Trump`s antiPakistan tweet as `unwarranted`, the country`s top civil and military brass on January 2, 2018 vowed not to act in haste, while agreeing to remain committed to the peace process in Afghanistan
   • The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Zubair Mehmood Hayat, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, PM`s Adviser on Finance Miftah Ismail, National Security Adviserretired Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua, Pakistan`s Ambassador in Washington Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, and other senior civil and military officials.
2. China defends Pakistan after Trump`s outburst
   • China has reiterated that Pakistan had made enormous sacrifices for the fight against terrorism and the international community should acknowledge its outstanding contributions to the global cause of counterterrorism
3. 14 MPAs file no-trust motion against Balochistan CM
   • Zehri sacks home minister, special assistan; PkMAP chief achakzai says movers of no-confidence motion should not play into the hands of non-democratic forces

4. US confirms new Pakistan aid cuts
   • The White House has confirmed suspending $255 million of military aid to Pakistan, a move seen as the first step to implementing President Donald Trump`s pledge to tighten economic restrictions on Pakistan
5. PM`s health programme to cover 15 more districts
   • The Prime Minister`s National Health Programme that is being implemented in 23 districts of the country will be extended to another 15 districts within a month

6. Pakistan, India share data on N-facilities
   • Pakistan and India, who regularly trade gunfire in the disputed Kashmir region, are sticking to a 20-year-old agreement to exchange information on their nuclear installations and facilities

9. France to put phones in prison cells in bold shift
   • France plans to install landline phones in prison cells across the country to cut down on rampant cellphone trafficking behind bars
10. Six countries enter UN Security Council
    • Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, Peru, Poland and the Netherlands formally joined the ranks of the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council on January 2, 2018
    • The UN Security Council has 15 members, including five with permanent seats who have the power to veto resolutions – Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States
