History of Environmental Thought One Liner MCQs

In 1980 the International Union for the Conservation of Nature introduced the term “sustainable development

Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Sustainable development has 3 goals: to minimize the depletion of natural resources, to promote development without causing harm to the environment and to make use of environmentally friendly practices

Following the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring in 1962, the developing environmental movement drew attention to the relationship between economic growth and development and environmental degradation.

Under the principles of the United Nations Charter the Millennium Declaration identified principles and treaties on sustainable development, including economic development, social development and environmental protection.

A 2013 study concluded that sustainability reporting should be reframed through the lens of four interconnected domains: ecology, economics, politics and culture.

In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly formally adopted the “universal, integrated and transformative” 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Pakistan is Missing Out on a Huge Opportunity by Not Using Tech in Agriculture (CSS Essay)

We have been hearing about how Pakistan is an agricultural country and most of our economy depends on agricultural output. The same can be said about the rural population which accounts for nearly all of the agricultural production and about 63 percent of the whole population.

Pakistan is blessed to have 40% arable (plough-able) land. Most of the countries on the world map do not have that percentage of land for their agricultural growth. Though agricultural growth is not a prerequisite for a prosperous economy, yet, it can provide self-sufficient food and raw material for many industrial products like textile and the industrial growth of any country is directly dependent upon agriculture. Yes, industrial growth can impact the economic outlook of the country provided the raw material is available in abundance. The rest of the economic projection can only be achieved through introducing fourth generation technologies based on internet communication systems.

The 70 Erratic Years of Pakistan’s Agriculture Sector (Essay Material for CSS)

With a rich and vast natural resource base covering various climatic and ecological zones, Pakistan ranks eighth in the world in farm output.

It is one of the world’s largest producers and suppliers of food and crops: chickpea (3rd), apricot (6th), cotton, rice and mango (4th), milk sugarcane and date palm (5th), kinnow or citrus (6th), and wheat and onion (7th).

The country’s agricultural sector has three major roles in the national economy: provides food to consumers and fibre to the industry, earns foreign exchange, and provides a market for industrial goods/machinery.

However, the share of agriculture in gross domestic product (GDP) has declined since independence, falling from 53 per cent in 1949-50 to 19.8pc in 2016-17.

Economy of Pakistan – Challenges and Prospects (CSS Essay)

1. Introduction

Pakistan today, confronts multiple challenges which vary in intensity. Some of the challenges appear to be multi-dimensional and complex in nature which certainly will take many years to overcome. Interestingly, a few of the problems and challenges have been self-inflicted by the powerhouses that have caused a widespread socio-economic damage to this country. This way, the poor economy of Pakistan remains the chieftain among the challenges since the country’s birth. The weak and fragile structure and the picture of the economy of Pakistan are what inevitably produce other inter-linked social challenges, such as poverty and corruption.

One gets to know that ever-rising inflation, increasing unemployment, shrinking GDP and diminishing exports level are the major obstacles which restrict the ability of Pakistan to have a well-developed and flourishing economy. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2016-17, the inflation rate in Pakistan grew to 5.02% from 4.78%; GDP growth rate went up to 4.71% from 4.04%; unemployment rate declined to 5.9% from 6%; interest rate is 5.75% which remains the same. Although the economic indicators are, by the large, not appreciable but a slight increase in GDP seems to be the positive development.

What is Education?

Education is the simple process of learning and knowing. It is not restricted to the schools only. Education starts from the mother’s lap. Parents and family inculcate good manners and make responsible citizens out of their children. Home is called first school of the children, but the formal education starts from the school, where they are taught, how to behave and understand what is going on around them.
