6. UK, US, Australia agree to work on hypersonics

• Britain, the United States and Australia on April 5, 2022 agreed to cooperate on hypersonic weapons and electronic warfare capabilities, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson`s office said, following a call between leaders of the new defence alliance.
• The new Aukus defence alliance, launched in September last year, prompted Australia to cancel a contract for a conventional French submarine in favour of a nuclear submarine program supported by the United States and Britain, damaging relations with French President Emmanuel Macron.
• In a joint statement, AUKUS leaders Johnson, US President Joe Biden and Australian PM Scott Morrison said they were pleased with the progress of the programme for conventionally armed, nuclear powered submarines for Australia, and the allies would co-operate in other areas too


7. Israel in polio vaccine drive after logging first case since 1988

• Israel has launched a polio vaccination drive after its first case of the disease in more than three decades, the Health Ministry said on April 5, 2022, voicing concern turnout may be depressed by public fatigue over the Covid-19 pandemic.
• Poliomyelitis, or polio, is a viral disease of the brain and spinal cord that can cause irreversible paralysis. It affects mainly children under the age of five. Israel began vaccinating against it in 1957 and previously logged its last case in 1988.
• But since March a girl has been diagnosed with the disease and at least six non-symptomatic cases have been detected in the Jerusalem area, the Health Ministry said


8. Kuwait govt resigns as political crisis intensifies

• Kuwait`s government resigned on Tuesday, just months after its formation, opening up new uncertainty as the tiny country grapples with a worsening political crisis that has blocked critical economic and social reforms.
• Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah submitted the cabinet`s resignation to the crown prince, state-run KUNA news agency reported, ahead of a no-confidence vote in parliament later this week that sought to remove him from office.
• It marks Kuwait`s third collective government resignation in the past year and a half. A host of new faces, including some picks to appease opposition blocs, had been appointed to ministerial posts as recently as December, with their resignation now reflecting their failure to make reforms


9. Amazon signs on launch partners for `space internet`

• Amazon on April 5, 2022 announced deals for scores of launches to deploy a `constellation` of satellites in low orbit around the Earth to provide internet service to people below.
• Amazon said that its contracts with Arianespace, Blue Origin and United Launch Alliance (ULA) are the largest commercial procurement of launch vehicles in history.
• The overall cost and timing of launches booked to make Amazon`s Project Kuiper a reality were not disclosed


10. Finch leads Australia to last-over win against Pakistan

• Pakistan got off to a fast start their best ever against Australia in a T20 powerplay but then the wheels came off.
• Continuing his rich vein of form, Babar Azam (66) had laid the platform for a big total in the one-off T20 at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday, which concluded Australia`s first tour of Pakistan since 1998.
• But once the captain fell at the start of the 16th over, Pakistan slumped.
• Some lusty blows by Khushdil Shah (24), Hasan Ali (10) and Usman Qadir (18 not out) near the end saw the hosts post 162-8 after being put in to bat
