6. Afghans face risk of rights violations upon return, say UN rapporteurs

Eight Special Rapporteurs of the Human Rights Council of United Nations have warned that Afghan nationals forced to leave Pakistan since November 1, face risk of human rights violations upon return.
In a joint statement issued in Geneva on Wednesday, the UN experts said the Afghan nationals most likely to be affected include women and girls, victims of trafficking, religious and ethnic minorities, former government officials, persons with disabilities, older persons, and other refugees and migrants

Iran has launched a capsule designed to carry living beings in a step towards sending astronauts into space, state media reported on Wednesday the latest test of aerospace technology criticised by the West.

8. Putin jets into Middle East to talk oil

President Vladimir Putin was escorted to the Middle East by four Russian fighter jets on Wednesday for a rare trip abroad, during which he will discuss oil production and Opec+ with Saudi Arabia`s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

9. Govts `spying on Apple, Google users` through push notifications

Unidentified governments are surveilling smart phone users via their apps` push notifications, a US senator warned on Wednesday.
In a letter to the Department of Justice, Senator Ron Wyden said foreign officials were demanding the data from Alphabet`s Google and Apple. Although details were sparse, the letter lays out yet another path by which governments can track smart phones


10. Iftar added to Unesco cultural heritage list

The UN cultural agency on Wednesday recognised Iftar, the meal that breaks the daytime fast during Ramazan, on its list of intangible cultural heritage.
The application for the socio-cultural tradition was jointly submitted by Iran, Turkiye, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco)
