1. SBP `comfortably placed` to meet key IMF targets

The State Bank of Pakistan has not only surpassed its forward book target of $4.2 billion for end-September, as agreed upon with the IMF, but is also `very comfortably placed` to meet the other end-quarter targets, including net international reserves and net domestic assets, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad has said.
Mr Ahmad`s remarks came during a series of meetings with international investors hosted by top-tier global banks like Barclays, JP Morgan, Standard Bank and Jefferies during the IMF-World Bank gatherings in Morocco, according to an SBP statement issued on Friday


2. IMF, World Bank urge funds for poverty, climate fights

The heads of the IMF and World Bank urged member nations on Friday to boost the funding firepower of the global lenders to help poorer countries combat poverty and climate change.
They made their plea at week-long talks of global finance ministers and central bank governors in Marrakesh, Morocco the first IMF World Bank annual meetings on African soil since 1973

3. Over 200 people in jail in blasphemy cases throughout country, Senate body told

A parliamentary body on Friday was informed that 215 individuals had been arrested under blasphemy charges with the highest number of arrests made in Sindh, which was 78.
A significant session of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights took place at the Parliament House, which was presided over by Senator Walid Iqbal.
The committee addressed multiple pressing issues, including the blasphemous act in Jaranwala, which led to the vandalisation of over 20 churches and almost 90 Christian houses

4. Israeli embassy staffer attacked

A staffer at the Israeli embassy in Beijing was assaulted on Friday and was hospitalised in stable condition, Israel`s foreign ministry said, and Chinese police said a suspect had been arrested.
The attack did not occur within the embassy compound itself, the Israeli foreign ministry said,which is just one embassy over from that of the United States and in an area with a number of other embassies and a heavy police presence


5. Gazans flee after Israel`s `impossible` ultimatum

Flocks of Palestinians fled to southern Gaza in search of refuge on Friday after Israel warned them to evacuate before an expected ground offensive.
Thousands of Gazans were on the move in search of safety, carrying plastic bags of belongings, suitcases on their shoulders and children in their arms.
Some walked while others drove, with belongings strapped to the roofs of their trucks, cars and piled on carts pulled by donkeys
