6. Moscow claims destroying depot containing Western weapons in Ukraine

• Russian forces fired cruise missiles to destroy a large depot containing US and European weapons in western Ukraine`s Ternopil region, Interfax reported on Sunday, as street fighting raged in the eastern city of Sievierodonetsk.
• The governor of the Ternopil region said a rocket attack on the city of Chortkiv fired from the Black Sea had partly destroyed a military facility, injuring 22 people. Alocal official said there were no weapons stored there.
• Moscow has repeatedly slammed the United States and other nations for supplying Ukraine with weapons.
• President Vladimir Putin said earlier this month that Russia would strike new targets if the West supplied longer range missiles to Ukraine for use in high-precision mobile rocket systems


7. Macron, left bloc in tough fight as France votes in legislative polls

• French President Emmanuel Macron and a new left-wing union were neck-and-neck in initial estimates of the first round of parliamentary elections, polls showed on Sunday, although it will remain hard to predict if he will get a majority or not.
• Less than two months after re-election, Macron faces a strong challenge from a united left-wing bloc that polls show could deprive the president of an outright majority even if it does not take control of parliament.
• An Ifop-Fiducial poll showed the so-called NUPES alliance of the left at 25.7pc, while Macron`s party and allies were seen getting 25pc of the votes. Marine Le Pen`s far-right scored 19.3pc of the popular vote, the poll showed


8. Saudi Arabia offers $10m to prevent Red Sea oil spill disaster off Yemen

• Saudi Arabia on Sunday pledged $10 million to help prevent an ageing Yemeni oil tanker from unleashing a potentially catastrophic spill in the Red Sea bordering its waters.
• The decaying 45-year-old oil tanker known as the FSO Safer, long used as a floating storage platform and now abandoned off the rebel-held Yemeni port of Hodeida, has not been serviced since Yemen was plunged into civil war.
• A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen in 2015 after Houthi rebels seized the capital Sanaa the previous year


9. Shadab steers Pakistan to series sweep against West Indies

• In-form skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed with the bat on June 12, 2022. But Pakistan demonstrated they are not a one-man team as a plucky Shadab Khan rose to the occasion with a superb all-round display, helping his side to a 53-run win over the West Indies in the third and final One-day International.
• The victory gave the hosts a 3-0 series sweep against Nicholas Pooran and company. A dust storm, which halted play during Pakistan`s innings for an hour, reduced the match to a 48-overs-a-side affair.
• But for Shadab, it was a challenge which he faced with heart and soul, excelling with both bat and ball.
• He took four wickets and notched up his highest ODI score under a tough situation. The Mianwali-born player richly deserved the Man of the Match award.


10. Educationist Shamim Saifullah passes away

• Renowned educationist and former principal of Aitchison College, Lahore, Shamim Saifullah Khan passed away on June 12, 2022. He was 86 years old.
• Shamim Saifullah was born to Sadullah Khan in Mohammad Nari area of Charsadda.
• He got his education from England. He remained principal of Aitchison College, Lahore, from 1994 to 2008
