6. Russian missiles hit eastern Ukrainian city; six dead

• Russian missiles hit a densely populated area of the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka on Sunday, killing six people, police said.
• There was a large crater in a yard and windows were shattered from ground to top floors in two 14-storey tower blocks, while nearby private houses had smashed roofs, journalists saw.
• Donetsk regional police said that Russia fired S-300 and Uragan missiles in a `massive attack` involving six strikes just after 10am local time.
• Kostyantynivka is around 27km from the city of Bakhmut, where the war`s heaviest fighting is continuing


7. Opec + announces surprise oil cuts; US calls move inadvisable

• Saudi Arabia and other Opec+ oil producers announced further oil output cuts of around 1.16 million barrels per day (bpd) on April 2, 2023, in a surprise move that analysts said would cause an immediate rise in prices and the United States called inadvisable.
• The pledges bring the total volume of cuts by Opec+, which groups the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries with Russia and other allies, to 3.66 million bpd, equal to 3.7 per cent of global demand.
• Sunday`s development comes a day before a virtual meeting of an Opec+ ministerial panel, which includes Saudi Arabia and Russia, and which had been expected to stick to two million bpd of cuts already in place until the end of this year


8. Landmines continue to kill, maim innocent civilians: UN

• Afghanistan, where landmines have maimed or killed more people than anywhere else, still has thousands of uncleared devices threatening about 1,537 communities, says a UN report released on April 2, 2023.
• The report marking the International Day for Mine Awareness on April 4, warns that 70 countries still have uncleared landmines that continue to 1(ill or maim innocent people.
• In Afghanistan, more than 18 million landmines have been cleared since 1989, freeing over 3,011 km2 of land that has benefited more than 3,000 mostly rural communities across the country. Yet, some 4,158 identified hazards remain, representing nearly 1,200 km2 of land, threatening about 1,537 communities. And these devices were `impeding safe movement of civilians and humanitarians, reducing safe access to socioeconomic opportunities and impeding development,` the report adds


9. Military blogger killed in St Petersburg cafe blast

• A leading Russian military blogger was killed on April 2, 2023 in an explosion at a cafe in Russia`s second-largest city of Saint Petersburg, the interior ministry said.
• `One person was killed in the incident. He was military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky,` the ministry said on Telegram.
• `Sixteen people were injured,` it added.
• The TASS news agency quoted a law enforcement source as saying the blast was `caused by an improvised explosive device hidden inside a statue given to Tatarsky as a gift` Tatarsky, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, has more than 500,000 followers on Telegram and is in favour of Russia`s campaign in Ukraine. The explosion occurred at `Street Food Bar No. 1` in the city centre

10. Relentless Arslan Ash secures another Tekken title

• Pakistani gamer Arslan `Ash` Siddique won the Tekken 7 competition at EVO Japan 2023 on April 2, 2023 after beating South Korea`s Meo-Il.
• The Lahore-based player has now won three EVO titles. In 2019, he won the Tekken 7 tournament in Japan as well as the Evolution Championship Series in the United States.
• In August last year, he finished third in the EVO 2022 Tekken 7 competition, according to Dawn.com On Sunday, Mr Siddique played as Zafina to dominate Meo-II, who was using Geese Howard, 3-0 in the tournament`s final leg.
